    Earthquake in Thailand

There was just a very long lasting earthquake here. Long enough that I grabbed the dog and left the house.

    Any news from anyone else?

...I'm on a high floor here in Bangkok and my building was rocking...I could hear stuff falling in other condos, walls and tiles cracking (elsewhere)...the judicial office is making an announcement now...probably to avoid using the elevators...SD says his office in CW was also shaken...and this was only a 4.9...

My cupboard doors were all swinging open. I could see the car rocking back and forth.

    Strongest one I've experienced here.

Lasted for about a minute, then a shorter one about 5 minutes later.

So they were right about giddiness in Chiang Mai

Thairath is reporting a 7.7 magnitude earthquake originating 10km deep underground in Myanmar. Figure is up from the initial 4.9 magnitude estimate.

I didn't see folks rushing into the streets from high rise buildings and traffic flow seems normal...

You beat me to it Misskit, I was about to start a thread 'Earthquake in Korat'.

It's the first one I've every experienced. I was upstairs in the house and there was a definite sway on.

It didn't do my aborigine family any good.

And water slopped out of the pool.

I took these photos at 13:27, so I guess it was a couple of minutes before that, and went on for at least a minute or so.

Powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake strikes Myanmar, tremors felt in Bangkok

An earthquake of magnitude 7.7 struck Myanmar, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) said on Friday, while hundreds of people poured out of buildings in the Thai capital Bangkok after the tremors.

There was no immediate word from Myanmar on damage after the quake, which GFZ said was at a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles) with the epicentre near the city of Mandalay.

Witnesses in Bangkok said people ran out onto the streets in panic and water splashed out of swimming pools.
