Swiss Man Arrested in Pattaya After Viral Video Showing Him Kicking Thai National in

A Swiss man has been arrested in Pattaya after a viral video showed him kicking a Thai national in the face during a late-night altercation on a Pattaya road that looked to be a road rage incident.

In the early hours of March 15th, a brawl between a Thai national and a foreigner occurred in Pattaya. The incident was captured on video by a bystander before going viral on social media.

The footage showed the foreigner kicking the Thai individual in the face, causing injuries. At 1:06 PM on March 17th, Pattaya Police and Chonburi Immigration arrested Mr. Buhler, a 35-year-old Swiss national, suspected of being the foreigner in the video. He was apprehended at a residence in Soi Pratamnak.

According to police, the suspect admitted to being the person in the video. He explained that before the incident, the Thai individual, whose identity remains unknown, had accidentally hit him with a motorcycle, which led to an argument.

The confrontation escalated when the Thai national allegedly struck Mr. Buhler with a helmet, resulting in the altercation seen in the video.

Authorities have charged Mr. Buhler with assault and handed him over to investigators for further legal proceedings. Police are still searching for the Thai individual to hear his side of the story as of press time.

I didn’t think someone could be arrested here unless their victim pressed charges. Am I wrong or is this a dodgy arrest?

You must be wrong. The public interest in prosecuting certain activities is overwhelming and must trump the victim's interests or views. There was a notorious case in the UK in I think the 1980s where a group of sado-masochistic homosexuals filmed their activities and the cops got the videos. An English appellate court easily rejected the consent defence (the victim consented to xyz etc). Some activities are so against the public interest they can't be tolerated even if the victim consented or won't complain to the police.

^ That would mean a man would be arrested for abusing his wife even if she didn’t file a case against him. I don’t think that is the way it works here.

    suspected of being the foreigner
    That says it all.

Similar to the "arrested for being in possession of thick lips and curly hair without a license" charge that used to be popular in the uk.
