Chiang Mai Launches City Cleanup Ahead of Tourism Season

Chiang Mai province has initiated a city cleanup campaign in preparation for the upcoming tourism season, following the recent flooding disaster. The provincial hall has organized a large-scale cleaning event aimed at removing mud and debris from the streets and homes affected by the disaster.

Governor Nirat Phongsittithaworn of Chiang Mai officiated the Big Cleaning Day event, which focuses on restoring the city from the damage caused by the flooding.

Teams comprising government officials, volunteers from private companies, and community members have been mobilized to wash away mud and clear debris from the streets, walkways, and buildings in anticipation of the tourism season.

The province is currently dealing with significant amounts of debris and damaged furniture. The total weight of these damaged items in both the city and Saraphi districts is estimated to reach 50,000 tons. Provincial officials are working towards the complete disposal of these items by the end of the month.

Additionally, the province is planning further renovations in the affected areas, demonstrating its readiness to welcome visitors while emphasizing the importance of community involvement and the necessary efforts to restore residents’ livelihoods as quickly as possible.
