Anti-vaxxer Colorado sheriff’s deputy, 33, dies of COVID complications
Daniel Trujillo leaves behind a wife and two children.Facebook
A 33-year-old Colorado sheriff’s deputy who publicly criticized the effectiveness of coronavirus vaccines died from COVID-19 complications.
Daniel Trujillo, a married father of two, died on Wednesday, the Denver Sheriff’s Department said.
“It is with great sadness that we share 33-year-old Denver Sheriff Deputy Daniel “Duke” Trujillo passed away last evening from COVID-19 complications,” the department wrote on Facebook Thursday morning.
“We ask that you keep his family in your thoughts and prayers and respect their privacy. We also ask that you pray for the members of our Department as well.”
The former Marine had posted several anti-vaccination messages on social media in recent months, according to The Daily Mail.
On May 7, Trujillo changed his Facebook profile picture border to read “I have an immune system,” an apparent rationale for not getting inoculated, the outlet reported.
Daniel Trujillo had shared posts about not wanting to get the COVID-19 vaccine.GoFundMeLast month, the border photo read “I don’t care if you’ve had your vaccine,” according to the article.
Screengrabs from a post shared by the deputy in April reportedly include a TikTok post of a Marine railing against vaccines, the Mail said.
“Being a marine has taught me one thing: never be the first to volunteer,” the man said. “Y’all rushing out there standing in line to get the vaccine like folks rush out to get the new iPhone, and if history has told us any new product that ever comes on the market is always full of problems. And you know how they fix those problems?”
Trujillo captioned the clip, “I’ll get it later on after y’all start growing apendages out of y’all’s foreheads,” according to the report.
The deputy also reportedly disparaged mask wearing on his social media accounts, which appeared to have been scrubbed as of Friday evening.
Trujillo worked at Denver’s Downtown Detention Center, where another relatively young deputy was killed by the coronavirus less than two weeks ago
Deputy James Herrera, 51, died of COVID-19 on May 16, sheriffs said.
There have been 1,261 COVID-19 cases at the jail — with 107 of them among staff members — since April 2020, according to The Canon City Daily Record.
Law enforcement officers were not required to become vaccinated, and the department does not keep track of who received an immunization, according to the article.
“Vaccinations were a choice,” Daria Serna, a sheriff’s department spokeswoman, told the paper.

Well there was the theory it was spread by U.S. soldiers and another that it came from a shipment of meat to China from Australia. Both those theories with not one shred of accompanying proof came from the Chinese government which was hardly surprising, yet a call for an investigation into the source from Australia raised so much ire from our (former) Chinese friends.
The line "The lady doth protest too much methinks" comes to mind.
Funnily a similar call from the U.S. and Britain doesn't seemed to have raised the same trade embargoes on those countries, proving size does matter but then again that what bullies do.
China whining again and not caring about facts
Of course, the fat kid has learned that he can throw his weight around against much smaller kids but is afraid to take on smaller kids . . . or even those 1/4 his size

Ah the chinkies do love their coverups.
Chinese drug firm Sinopharm finally publishes Covid-19 vaccine trial data | South China Morning PostThe Chinese drug maker Sinopharm has finally published the interim results from a phase 3 trial of its
Covid-19 vaccine after more than 200 million doses have been administered worldwide.
The study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association on Wednesday, has finally answered scientists’ calls for greater transparency, but the results do not cover some of the most vulnerable groups.
A coronavirus treatment touted by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a “miracle drug” earlier this year has been approved by the Health Ministry for a Phase II/III trial, according to the hospital in which it was developed.
Prof. Nadir Arber of Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center told The Jerusalem Post that his EXO-CD24 COVID-19 treatment will soon launch a double-blind placebo trial in which around 150 patients in moderate or serious condition will be treated with the medication.
Because the level of COVID-19 in Israel is extremely low, Sourasky will partner with other medical centers throughout the country, and will likely extend the trial to other countries, Arber said.
Georgia, for example, which has been reporting between 500 and 1,000 new daily cases according to the Worldometer website, has agreed to carry out a trial, once it receives authorization from the European Medicines Agency.
In addition, Arber – and a spokesperson for Sourasky who confirmed the report – said that the hospital is in dialogue with India, Brazil, Portugal, Costa Rica and the Czech Republic about getting approval to run trials in those countries, too.
“I was in Georgia last week, and they are very eager to do it,” Arber told the Post.
Moreover, the treatment is being tested in Greece in what is known as a dosing study to determine how much is needed to most effectively treat COVID-19.
EXO-CD24 was first talked about back in February, when Sourasky shared that 29 out of 30 (96%) of the COVID-19 patients treated with it recovered within days and were released from the hospital. Later, another five patients were given EXO-CD24 and had the same results.
Six patients received a higher dose than the rest.
Around the same time, Netanyahu introduced Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to Arber during his visit to Israel to learn about the treatment.
During a press conference with the Greek leader, Netanyahu held up a vial of Arber’s treatment and called it a “miracle drug.”
EXO-CD24 COVID-19 is based on CD24-enriched exosomes and is meant to fight the cytokine storm, which overwhelms the immune system. Exosomes are responsible for cell-to-cell communication. In this case, they deliver the CD24 protein to the lungs, which helps calm down the immune system.
A cytokine storm is when the body’s immune system goes into overdrive and attacks itself – one of the leading causes of death in COVID-19 patients. Arber said that a cytokine storm develops among 5% to 7% of COVID-19 patients within five to seven days.
“It should only take a few months” to complete these trials, Arber told the Post. “We have a very motivated staff and a very good project that is very promising, safe and has potential to make a real difference.”
Although Israel has largely exited the coronavirus crisis – and on June 1 will lift all remaining Health Ministry restrictions except for wearing masks indoors and those that apply to Ben-Gurion Airport – there have been between 400,000 and 800,000 new daily cases worldwide in the last week.

New national data shows just how well COVID-19 vaccines are working to bring down the severity of the third wave in Canada.
Based on data provided by the provinces and territories up to May 25, only 0.15 per cent of vaccinated Canadians became infected by the virus 14 days or more after their first dose.

Thai company to import world’s first pet vaccine
THAILAND: Thailand plans to import 10,000 doses of the world’s first coronavirus vaccine for animals.
Supreme Pharmatech Co, one of the largest pharmaceutical manufacturers in the country, has held negotiations with the manufacturer Carnivac-Cov to import the vaccine domestically.
“This is a good opportunity to contribute to the health of animals too, as many of us spend time in such close proximity to animals,” said Milint Wintarasiri, chief executive officer of Supreme Pharmatech Co.
“It will help reduce risk of potential infection, and now is an appropriate time since vaccination in humans is being carried out. So, a vaccine for animals is something that can help both humans and animal stay safe from the virus,” she said.
Russia announced on March 31 it had registered “Carnivac-Cov”, the world’s first coronavirus vaccine for animals, AFP reported.
According to Konstantin Savenkov, deputy head of Rosselkhoznadzor, the Russian Federal Service of Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision (Rosselkhoznadzor) had been testing the vaccine since October.
It had been shown to be protective against COVID-19 in dogs, cats, Arctic foxes, minks, foxes, and other animals, with few side-effects.
Russian media reported that Thailand is planning to import an initial 10,000 doses.
Rosselkhoznadzor had been finalising a deal with a big pharmaceutical manufacturer in Thailand, according to Russian news agency TASS.

Cuba bets on biotech prowess as it rolls out homegrown COVID-19 vaccine
Soberana, or sovereign, is how Cuba baptized its top COVID-19 vaccine, which just completed the last phase of clinical trials. Other shots are called Abdala, named after a poem by independence hero José Martí, and Mambisa, the word for 19th Century insurrectionists in the fight against Spanish rule.
The names reveal a lot about the island's political and economic strategy to focus on a homegrown solution that is presumably cheaper and can ensure a provision of lifesaving shots even amid challenges created by the long-standing U.S. embargo. Cuba's long tradition of vaccine production, a robust biotech industry and critical mass of scientists set it up for success in becoming the first country in Latin America to produce a COVID vaccine.
But as trials linger on and rollout plans keep getting delayed, Cuba's bet on vaccine sovereignty may be coming at a price that's rising by the day: COVID-19 cases, which totaled just over 12,200 in all of last year, surpassed 124,000 so far this year. Since the start of the pandemic Cuba has registered 136,628 cases and 912 deaths, according to the World Health Organization. Though the numbers remain low by Latin American standards, daily case counts soared to about 1,000 in the past two months, as more tourists arrived after the island reopened its borders to tourism in November.
Earlier this month Cuban health authorities began vaccinating people with the Soberana and Abdala vaccines even before the shots were approved by the local drug authority, as fears grew that the arrival of a coronavirus variant first detected in South Africa could lead to new spikes in cases.

Covid-19 Cases and Hospitalizations Rise in U.K. as Variant From India Takes Hold
LONDON—The U.K. government is accelerating its vaccination drive as officials estimate that as many as three quarters of new Covid-19 cases in the country could be the result of a coronavirus variant first identified in India.
U.K. hospitalization numbers have ticked up and case numbers have risen 20% in the past week—though from a low base—as the variant takes hold in parts of the country, largely among younger people who haven’t yet received two vaccine doses.
“The latest estimates are that more than half and potentially as many as three quarters of all new cases are now of this variant,” the U.K. health secretary, Matt Hancock, said Thursday.
The spread of the variant is threatening to delay a planned lifting of social- distancing restrictions next month and providing an early test of whether widespread vaccination can pave the way for a return to normal life.
“Clearly the vaccines are having a big impact already,” Prime Minister Boris Johnson said this week. “The question is: How big? How reliable are the vaccine fortifications?”

I see project fear is still alive and well on the Teakdoor coughs and sniffles thread.
Seven people died in the UK yesterday from Covid. SEVEN PEOPLE out of almost 60 million (and those figures were no doubt inflated).
The Indian variant - oooh, another variant, scare us some more - is spreading because it's prevalent in multi-generational households.
Indian variant may not be as dangerous as we thought, admit scientists
For fucks sake, what is it with you Covid zombies about an illness that over 99% of people survive? Viruses mutate. It's what they do. You're likely to be ok though unless you're old, fat and sick.
Take your masks off, get outside and start living again. More people die of hunger than this fucking cold (I won't call it a flu because that is exaggerating its severity for most people).
^ BTW, where I am has been mask free for the last week. Everything is wide open. It is wonderful. Just hoping Memorial Day weekend doesn’t start up a new round.
You know, MK, I'm trying to be sensitive to the forum because I understand that we have a lot of oldies on here!
But, my mum is 68 and vulnerable (she has COPD and heart problems cos of smoking since she was young) and the one thing she has missed most was not being able to hug me and my wife. She went shopping after the lockdown ended and she was shaking with fear. She'd lived like this until she got the vaccine a couple of months ago.
That's not life.
My point, knowing my mum's experience, is not to let the fear take over because it's ruining people when you're highly likely to be ok. I aint no covid denying whackjob, but I see the effect this is having on people regardless of the illness.
I wish you the best misskit, as I do everyone on this forum, and there comes a point where people have to start living their lives instead of living in fear. I think we have to do this now. Que sera sera.
We're not ok in Colombia. Cases are high, but people can't afford to eat, so everything is open now more or less.
What can you do though in a poor country?
Over 4 million more people here were plunged into extreme poverty last year through lockdowns. Despite claiming to protect the vulnerable, lockdowns only exacerbate an already shitty situation.
it's great, unless you happen to be that 1%
By the way, it's 99% survivability because of all the preventive steps taken, Can you imagine what the situation would be if we simply relied on herd immunity? wasn't it "Herd immunity that gave us the British Variant?
How many variants would arise that we might not have immunity too?
With thinking like that it is a wonder we have survives as long as we have as a species. I am positive our future prospects for survival are not very promising .
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.
I'm not sure what your point is, BB, but the 99% survival rate is from your very own CDC and only falls to less than 95% when you look at the over 70s (it's most often comorbidities that do for people too, so 2 or more existing illnesses).
Would you not say these odds are pretty favourable?
As I said, I'm trying to be sensitive here to the members, but my mum is in the same boat and I see the harm that the worry and being unable to get out of the house is doing to her. Sorry if I come across otherwise.
^
Do you think the survival rate would remain at 99% if we took the herd immunity path and the hospitals were overwhelmed, resulting in very few cases being able to be treated? That would mean non covid patients would not be able to get the care they need as well. And 99% of people with covid don't come out of it without long term health problems either.
Have you seen the current situation in Mexico? Next to no deaths as a nation and many regions have barely been affected by the sniffles.
Old and sick people die. It's what they do. Sadly, it's an occupational hazard of being old.
The survival rate is almost 100% for those of us who aren't afflicted by such worries.

A Lancet peer reviewed paper on the effect of the vaccines:
Taking the vaccine gives you a less than 1.5% chance of dying from the virus compared to if you hadn't taken one (because most people are unlikely to get seriousy ill from the China flu)

(I'm pro-vaccine by the way)
