Locals who live on Doi Suthep are facing a water shortage as drought continues to grip the north.
The villagers, primarily living around Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, rely on local water courses for their tap water. Those water courses have nearly dried up despite efforts to temporarily dam some of the water for later use.
Locals are being asked to restrict their tap water use to all but essential needs in an effort to save water but it may be too little, too late.
Around 200,000 liters of water is currently being held in storage tanks with around 100,000 liters likely to be used by the end of month. At that point, water will have to be trucked up the mountain for use if rains don’t come shortly to replenish local water courses.
