Thai man decapitates himself with angle grinder doing DIY in Samut Prakan

A husband was killed while fixing his house in Thailand when he dropped his angle grinder saw, which sliced through his neck.
Suwan Ladee, 54, was changing wooden beams infested with termites at his home in Samut Prakan province, Thailand, on February 28.
The father-of-one was standing on scaffolding and reached above him when he slipped and dropped his tool on his neck.

The angle grinder didn't have a protective guard on the blade and cut into his body.
It sliced through his throat and chest spraying blood before he stumbled and fell to the ground in front of horrified friends helping him with the renovation.
Wife Nong, 52, said: 'My husband was working with four other people working all together to fix that house and get rid off the termites.

Ive seen them use this kind of blade in Thailand on an angle grinder a few times and have to walk away with a quickness each time.

Regular grinder disks for mild steel cause horrific injuries themselves and are a major issue in my employment field. Chinese actually make fake knockoffs of brand name disks that kill people because they shatter.

    But this saw blade?

    Darwin Award.

In 12 years I've never seen a Thai operate a electrical tool with the safety guard attached. Whenever Thais buy something they automatically start to modify it.

See in pic 1. Wasn't wearing his safety thongs/flippers which would have caused him to slip and cut his own head off.

Didn't we have a TD member that seriously cut his leg with an unguarded angle grinder?

Edit to add: Found the thread, it was our infamous pieman

Safety first is an unknown phrase in Thailand. I used to cringe when I watched my work team building our house. I stepped in a few times when safety became an issue, but you can't save them all if they are not willing to listen.

Had a yachty mate in Vancouver nearly cut his leg off with an angle grinder while grinding off osmosis blisters from the hull of his boat. Lots of sad stories..remember one where a guy stepped back while using a power saw and dismembered his young son...

How many times have you seen a chickenhead welder work with goggles or a protective mask?

They are totally incapable of assessing any outcome other than the one they want and those that do recognise the need for caution are generally too stupid to work out just how to exercise it beyond holding a fucking amulet or gibbering some incoherent incantation.
