Damn, it's been a long time since I was down there. I recall a place with nice people, but quite unruly. Smuggling was a big thing, as well as prostitution, and they really didn't feel they reported to any Capitol. It was little different on the other side of the border frankly- you had to form a convoy with Army escort to go form east to west, on the new road. Bandit country.

I have NEVER EVER Implied that all Muslims are terrorist's that is pure baloney:) not only is it baloney but its a stupid statement to make and I totally deny it , please give me the post # (or any other post in any thread ) I have many times been accused of saying just that but when I challenge them to show me the post they clam up or make some weak excuse , sure some Muslims in the South of Thailand did suffer under Thaksin (the Tak Bai incident) but so did 2,500 suspected drug dealers in 2003 , and were did I say I view Muslims from other provinces the same as the Southern ones? , I do not even have a general view of Southern Thai Muslims as they are not all the same , I only know one Muslim here and I buy beef from her at our Local market , so how could I say that ? hoping to hear from you soon :)

^Thanks for the PMs, looks like you're taking me for a newbie on this issue. I had been interested in the topic for some years , so I think I'm quite aware of theses "incidents" (tak bai, kru sue), and more generally the way things were/are "managed" either by insurgents or authorities (Army era, Thaksin+Police sequence, and then again the army back again since quite some time now as they are on duty in the area since the previous coup )...
