Drought is now not only threatening farming in several parts of the country but also is forcing a famous tourist attraction in Chiang Mai, the Bhubing Palace, the royal winter residence, to cut visiting days.
This is because a lack of rainfall has prompted the level of water stored at tanks in the Bhubing Palace to decrease dramatically.
The palace, which is open to the public, only has sufficient water to sustain consumption for one month.
The water shortage prompts the Royal Household Bureau to announce an adjustment of visiting days of the palace.
Opening days are reduced from seven days a week to three days a week.
The palace is now open to public on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The new opening days will be effective from February 15 onward until the drought situation is relieved.
