Regarding minor indiscretions, the visiting forces are always briefed on the need to behave when going ashore. The fact that indescretions occur is a simple fact of life for both sides. Not excusing it, but experience teaches us that it does happen and both sides expect it to one degree or another.
The key here is that the visiting command is acutely aware of the importance of the VFA and will do all that is reasonable to demur to the needs of local people who find themselves embroiled in altercations. A serviceman or woman on the wrong end of this can find themselves in deep doo doo very quickly. Military justice in these cases is swift and summary, (Dealt with by local command under UCMJ). Thes summary powers are there for this very reason and a serviceman will be well aware of summary punishments.
justice is served quickly and compensation, where appropriate is made. An example is frequently made of these types of transgression. For you to dismiss it as a rich boy buying his way out of trouble is completely wide of the mark.

I occasionally run into these young servicemen. The last time was in a Manila bar during a ship visit. I have never been called "Sir" so many times in one afternoon.

Baseball caps, water bottles, shorts and trainers, t-shirts and tattoos. Called the dancers "Miss".

Each with two or more assigned "shore leave buddies".

I saw no excessive drinking at all. Polite kids who had been well-briefed on VD, scams, how to behave, and on the shit that would land on their heads if they screwed up.

As anyone who has ever served will know, there's always one who doesn't get the word.

Re US servicemen... I only have one experience: many years ago, I was in Singapore when an aircraft carrier docked, and the place was then subsumed by Yanks. I met them in a waterpark, on streets, in bars, etc. All were very nice and polite. I did wonder if British sailors would be so polite in the same situation. I'm not saying this was indicative of every one, but my experience was much more positive than I would have imagined...

Presently China has fronted itself in a high-profile manner demanding rights over the South China Sea south of the Paracel Islands ('the nine dash zone') which has given VN and PI huge concerns in particular with additional concern from Japan.

It's in the interests of all these nations to have close ties with America.
The PI have always had good relations and it is most unfortunate when a story like this killing receives high-profile play on a sovereign nations media.
The longer it is front and center on the media outlets can easily create added animosity in a friendly nation.

The folk posting on these news threads are usually pretty clued up PC. Don't need to spoon feed it or explain everything in detail.

Pretty quiet today. Expect it to stay quiet until Monday, as the country is entering a four-day weekend for All Saints Day or whatever it's called. Half the country travels to their home provinces and, despite the President saying Thursday and Friday are not holidays, my kids' school is closed, and much of the country will be as well.

Monday is the court's 'ocular inspection' of the hotel room crime scene - as if that will tell them anything at this point.

Monday is also the day Herr Kraut has to be back at work in The Fatherland or risk losing his job. Kind of doubt with everything closing that his voluntary deportation petition will get ruled on in time.

Although Herr Kraut might get a ruling today. I know the courts are functioning today as my partner just called from Manila to let me know two of our pending cases cleared the court system today.

Also, I believe next Tuesday would have been Jeff Laude's birthday - expect the slime lawyer to throw a huge anti-VFA birthday bash.....

As expected, little new today.

The Armed Forces has filed a complaint with the Philippine Bar asking that the slime lawyer be disbarred for his organization of, and participation in, the Camp Aguinaldo fence climbing incident.

Herr Kraut is still in the country.

Local blogs are blah, blah, blah.

Army has just advised that they will not ask Immigration to block Herr Kraut's return to The Fatherland. They will, however, continue to aggressively push the case that he should be declared an undesirable alien and never again be allowed to enter the Philippines.

There may be some sympathy for the guy, his fiancee has been brutally murdered and it is unlikely in those circumstances he would lose his job.

He wasn't in anyone's sights at all until he broke into a restricted Philippine Army base, then broke into a restricted detention area within that base, then assaulted the Philippine Army Sergeant who was posted on guard at that facility.

This was all instigated and facilitated by the lawyer, and caught on camera by multiple TV crews.

Once the TV coverage of him climbing the fence into the detention area and assaulting a Filipino soldier went viral on TV here, he was very much "in the sights".

Right until he tried to scale a fence in a military compound he was. Now he is a criminal.

He's being a twat though - trying so hard to prove him and the manbeast victim were really engaged when clearly he was just a customer and sponsor. He should never have come forward.

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has just issued a deportation order for the Kraut.

This allows him to leave the country immediately once he gets National Bureau of Investigation clearance.

Since it is in response to his request for voluntary deportation, he pays for the plane ticket.

The BI deportation order states that by requesting voluntary deportation, and choosing not to pursue the case against him, he is deemed to have admitted the charges against him.

The BI further stated that his name will be included on the blacklist, and he will be barred from re-entering the Philippines.
