Taxi fare to go up 8-11% next month but improvements must come first

The Ministry of Transport will allow taxi fares to go up 8-11% early next month but give taxi operators to improve their cars within 30 days, beginning October 5.

Taxi operators needed to improve conditions in their cars such as smelling and cooling system, cleanliness in the car, behaviour of the taxi drivers and overall conditions of their service cars

The ministry will give stickers to taxis which pass all required improvement laid down by the ministry.

For those cars which could not pass the required improvements, they would not be allowed to increase fares.

But the ministry said the starting metre rate of 35 baht will remain unchanged.
However the fare will go up in the longer distance it goes and also the time spent in traffic jams.

The ministry will also encourage taxi to convert their cars to NGV fuel use instead of LPG to lower danger risk in case of accident.

Transport Minister ACM Prajin Juntong earlier indicated that taxi fare rise would be considered on cost of living and spending indices of two groups of people, ordinary people and taxi operators, and fuel cost which has yet to be decided by the Ministry of Energy.

Fairysnuff, the prices are currently a tad low, so an increase will help the drivers without troubling the passengers too much. I used to sometimes get a taxi 35kms from Bangkhuntien to Nakhon Pathom and it cost 200 baht, 4 squids, very cheap...

So now you know. Taxis with the new stickers will be more expensive than taxis without the stickers.

Taxi to the airport 110 baht or taxi to the airport 120 baht - Which taxi will you choose?

I always take Taxi to and from Airport, but should really take the express Skytrain 150 baht takes 15 mins.

I see now if you fly with Thai you can check in at the sky train for your flight.

By improvements doe's that mean you can drug test the driver before you start the journey.
No gaffer tap holding bumper on or holding windscreen in place.
No rumbling from wheel bearings or rear differential, brakes work all 4 tires are inflated and have a tread pattern.
Yeap that's worth another 4 baht on the fare.

I cannot understand why anyone would take a taxi into Bkk in favour of the Express link unless they were burdened with baggage and even then it would have to be a monster case.

It's just the best way to go. And if you live south east of Bangkok and just want to avoid the hassle of queuing for an airport cab and paying the premium and tolls, you can take the link to somewhere like Ramkhamhaeng station, four stops, and catch a cab there - many wait for such passengers and rarely do you get any " no meter " hassles.

Why our nearest ARL station is a bit out of the way need to get a taxi to get to station. The ARL station is 3 stops from the airport, nay as well stay in the taxi for another 10 minutes.
Or should we take the taxi to the station get out walk up a long flight of stairs then a few hundred meters to the ticket office up another flight of stairs if the escalator isn't working.another walk to the platform.
Wait for a train board 10 minutes later arrive at airport, another long walk uo 4 floors to departure then check in.
Or let the taxi drop us off outside departures.
I know which way we prefer to get to swampy.

    Bollocks.

Use First Class Bangkok to get picked up in a decent car, no fuck off LPG boot in the tank, chocolates and drinks in the back.

1000B anywhere in Bangkok, no hanging out with the plebs,
