Only if they were not so concerned about losing out on trade with ASEAN and developed a conscience. Doubt they would do that if the Thai find the Burmese guilty.

The UK Foreign minister is a chap called Philip Hammond previously at Defence. He is utterly ruthless and will contend for the leadership one day. He got where he is by standing on the shoulders of others. Would not be surprised to see him licking Thai boots before this show is over.

There are scores of witnesses but they are simply too terrified to testify.

“Now we have witnesses but the problem is they are scared. We might need more time and we might have to go to Myanmar to meet them,” Nakorn Chompoochart, the head of the accuseds’ legal team, told the Bangkok Post.
“I’m confident because we have enough information to convince the court that the two did not commit the crime.”
And they weren’t the only ones who were afraid.
A friend of the victims fled the island soon after the killings, claiming that he had been threatened by local mafia who were trying to set him up, according to the Asian Correspondent.
Before running away, Scotsman Sean McAnna wrote a desperate message on his Facebook page: “Thai mafia are trying to kill me. Please help me.”
McAnna told the UK’s Telegraph of the ordeal: “They just said to me: ‘It was you who killed them. You’ve got two people’s deaths on your hands. We know it was you. You’re going to hang yourself tonight and we are going to watch you hang. You will die tonight.’
“They would have taken me up into the hills and hung me to make it look like I’d hung myself.”

That was probably why the Met delivered a limited briefing to the parents. The full report may have made things worse for them, especially if it reveals that incompetence and corruption is rife throughout the system. Maybe a reason for the report to have limited distribution?
I assume the coroner is entitled to ask for a copy now everyone is aware of its existence, and its limitations.

I have friends that are holidaying there now. And staying at AC Resort.

I'm like 'what? You do know you're amongst murderers?'

Will never go to that island. Ever.

    Well Bas,

If you have never been there you are missing out on something special, it is a beautiful Island.

You must remember that its been kicking off since 86 with rarely any trouble, its unfortunate this has happened but welcome to the real world.

If you decide boycott Tao because of what has happened I suggest you boycott the world, its a nasty place at times.

Don't go to South Africa or Australia , lots of bad shit goes on in these countries.

I come from South Africa. And I boycott it.

I tell people not to go there because of the senseless crime.

Dunno about Oz - maybe the bogans would a factor in me not going there.

    Oh yes,

We have many Bogans but they are the good guys.

The crime in Australia is quite staggering when one lives there and is privy to the daily going on's.

Backpackers have been a fair target at times and a few serial killers made them there favorite target.

Feel much more safe in Thailand than I ever did in Australia.

Hmmm, 2012 murder stats: Australia 254, Thailand 3,600. The rate per capita in Thailand is approximately five times that of Oz.

Of course, we all know that Thai reporting is crap and that figure is much higher when one takes into account all those ' accidental ' deaths and suicides, but, even so, statistically speaking, one would have to be either a total cretin or entirely innumerate to feel safer in Thailand than in Oz.

So, Terry, which is it? Or have you a special insurance policy from Rose Tinted Specs R'Us Co.Ltd.?

I think Terry has some common sense that keeps him safer than some tourists who have none. This puts them at a much higher risk no matter what the murder statistics say.

Typically one needs to possess not more than a double digit IQ to apply.

What has happened with the police being asked to appear before the Thai HRC and answer to the allegations of torture?

Democracy for Burma are trying to keep up support for the accused men.
It's a cheap and easy way to show the authorities in Thailand that the world is still watching. They are asking supporters to send letters, cards to them in prison.

If you are interested the address is :

Nothing ever will, just the way it is.

Tourists love the place regardless of what goes down, most can work out that the place ain't perfect but with a bit of common sense one will never encounter any trouble what so ever.

Innocent people get murdered every day in every country world wide.

I don't want to piss on the long-awaited retirement in Thailand you grafted so many years to get to, but its a bit of a sweeping statement, that. There are people out there who thought exactly the same, until shit happened.

France for example has four times the number of tourists Thailand does, from the same sort of countries (Europe, China, Japan, Australia, the US). In which do you think more tourists end up killed, one way or another?

.... the difference is that in most of those countries the police will make some effort to find the culprits rather than stitching up the nearest available scapegoats in order to shift blame, protect their networks and carry on trousering the proceeds.

If you think the predators has been caught, I would agree

    Many believe that they haven't

My common sense say don't go

But you are right; folks will go there

    They have been warned

What became of the German in Udon Thani who was hit in the head with a hoe for fun after a few Thais decided to copycat the attack and beat a Westerner to death for a laugh?

He was on life support apparently.

No news that I can find, so he probably recovered since it is not newsworthy in Thailand. If he died, there would be coverage blaming men from Burma beating the German to death.
