Norwegian Travel Fund Forbids Thai Airways Package Deals

According to the Norwegian paper vg.no the Norwegian Travel Fund (Reisegaratifondet - RGF) has forbidden Thai Airways and 23 other travel agencies to sell package travel deals as the companies haven’t provided sufficient security for its customers money.
“We have expelled the travel agencies as we have received no declaration that the money set aside for customers’ financial security is high enough,” says Signe Eriksen, Chief of RGF.
According to Eriksen, the travel agencies have to set aside money that covers the prepayment that customers pay for their purchased package. The point is that customers will receive a full refund if the travel agency is to go bankrupt.
The 24 excluded tour operators are mostly small businesses, with the exception of Thai Airway. However, there is reasons to believe that in the case of Thai Airways a human error might be the cause of the missing financial security.
“Most of the agencies get the paperwork done within a week or three, and when that is done, we will update the list,” says Signe Eriksen.
