    Thai insanity

I am sure you will never see another thread like this again, but here it goes.

Mrs. Chi brought her puppy from Thailand to the US. The hound was born in Thailand, vaccinated in Thailand, inspected and certified by a vet in Thailand and certified and inspected by the vets at Swampy Poom prior to departure. The pup has been in the US for about 4 months and Mrs. Chi is leaving for Thailand. She contacted the vets (Department of Livestock Development) at Swampy Poom just to be sure on thee procedure for re-entry.

So here is the rub, they told her she needs to have all kinds of paperwork filled about to "import" little Dirty Dog (named changed to protect the innocent). They emailed some paperwork that needs to be completed over here.

Anyone else ever deal with this before?

Surely there have been other Thais that have taken a pet abroad.

So therefore it could be carrying disease when it re-enters the country. It's not insanity, it's simply international quarantine procedure.

It had all of its shots in Thailand. Are you telling me every Thai that tales a pet with them on vacation goes through this? I should fill out their form myself.

    Imported pet form indeed!!

Shall I roll on down to the local USDA office for an inspection?

Get a tourist visa for the hound. Holiday in Patters. Any mongrel no matter their nationality can get one.

I would assume so, yes. Hence the form.

(Who takes a pet on an overseas vacation anyway? Next time just rent it a beach bungalow on Koh Chang and be done with it...=)

it shouldnt be too difficult to sort the paperwork out, any vet registered with the usda, and there must be thousands of them, should be able to do the certification for you. if the rabies shots are still within the time limit, your dog wont need to be re-vaccinated.

if you had tried to take a dog into the uk you would have to quarantine it at your expense for 6 months, even if it had been fully vaccinated and certified prior to arriving in the uk.

Chitown, not so sure this is a battle I'd want to take up or get my tit a ringer over as this sounds like standard operating procedure to me. Do what is requested, it sounds toooo easy and move on my friend to fight another day. Other more important things to worry about.

I know and I hope my Dirty Dog style email I sent to them does not get me detained at the airport?

You shouldn't have called them "slanty eyed yellow bastard"
They are neither yellow or slanty eyed.

And that is precisely the reason we don't have rabid dogs running loose. Maybe we ought to apply that standard to the 'human animals' seeking entry to the UK?!
