My question is concerning the airlines not allowing you to fly on one way ticket without a long stay marriage visa.
What visa can you get outside of Thailand so that rule does not apply?
I had a married visa for years, but it is expired.

cat 'o' non immigrant has done the trick for me , ive been on a return ticket for the last few years though, but theyve never once checked my return ticket using that type of visa, none of the airlines have questioned it either, etihad, emirates, jet, qatar
12 months plus another 90 days methinks
So you had a Non imm 'o' {with possible extension} which sunsetter is suggesting you get again. Don't you need a marriage certificate to apply for that?Originally Posted by chitown
I just flew from Thailand to the USA and back on China Eastern. When I checked in at LAX for the return trip, I essentially had only a one way ticket. The check in employee looked at it, asked another employee about it, then asked me if I had a visa. I showed her my retirement visa, and she disappeared again for at least 5 minutes and returned with a Xerox copy of the visa and processed me through.
In other words, yes, it is or can be an issue unless you have a Thai visa. Apparently there is a some penalty for the airlines if they bring you here without the right papers. Probably good to call whatever airline you intend to fly on, and get the answer in writing if you can.
I've never been asked to show a return ticket coming into Thailand, but I've heard numerous others say they have.
Any Non Imm visa will do and as far as I was aware so will a tourist visa.
Feel free to correct the TV bit if it's bollocks.
Ive been coming here 7 years [ x 6 times a year ] on a 1 way ticket, never asked why I not have return, but last xmas at Sinapore Airport was told by Singa Air I needed a return ticket to fly, Ha Ha ,so I brought a 1 way from Jetstar.
i came in one a oneway tkt. with a non o immigrant visa in october2009 and applyed for a marriage at the end of dec2009,no problem with thai.airways.
Depends on the airline. Without a visa Air Asia never been a problem from any country to Thailand, with Thai always a problem from Australia in my experience; always want to see either a visa or a return/onward ticket.Originally Posted by BobR
If you have any kind of visa you don't need to show a return ticket to either the airline nor immigration.

To answer the OP: a one year Non-Immigrant multiple entry visa is the visa you need.
A normal Non-Immigrant visa is only good for a 90 day single entry so you'll have to find an Embassy or Consulate that will issue the one year multiples. There aren't many and they are getting fewer by the year.
I know what I need to satisfy Thailand, but only its the airline I am concerned about.
