How many ways can he say NO? Christie says again, he’s not running.

The GOP is desperate and hounding a man who has no interest (at this time) to run.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will announce at a press conference in Trenton on Tuesday that he will not seek the Republican nomination for president, multiple news outlets are reporting. (he just announced it)

Christie's reaffirmation of his previous vow that he would not seek the White House in 2012 comes after almost two weeks of fevered speculation driven by the first-term governor’s aides and financial backers that he was reconsidering.

With just 24 days to go until the filing deadline in the first-in-the-nation primary state of New Hampshire, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani are now the only potentially major GOP candidates who have not yet made their intentions known.

    (Snip)

Christie’s decision not to enter the race reflected the obstacles he would have faced as a late-entering candidate with some moderate positions on issues like immigration and gun control, which would have caused complications in a Republican primary.

Run Sarah run: RealClearPolitics - Christie Won't Run for President

    and another poll:

This week's ABC/Washington Post poll shows Mitt Romney in the lead, but Rick Perry falling off dramatically, while Herman Cain has surged into a tie for second:

The standings among the declared candidates:

    Romney 25%
    Cain 16%
    Perry 16%
    Paul 11%
    Gingrich 7%
    Bachmann 7%
    Santorum 2%
    Huntsman 1%

^We can only hope so, and then after the American public tosses her to the side we can move on and not be distracted by these nut cases like Palin and Bachmann. Maybe they’ll learn no one (but a few crazy extremist Republicans) really takes them seriously and they will crawl back into their holes.

Between innings (and the rain) yesterday I saw this about Palin and a third party run,………

Creating a third party fits that narrative.

Sarah Palin isn’t exactly the Republican Party’s most favorite daughter. Her political career is rife with her fights in exposing corruption, even of his own colleagues. The party has strayed too far from its original platform so there really is no use, or need, for her to ask for the establishment’s blessing.

Political parties always fear a rogue third party challenge for one big reason – it splits the votes. In the case of 2012, it is almost like handing President Obama a second term by default. This would certainly be the case if Sarah Palin left the Republican tent and ran as an independent. But if she makes the “right choice,” she could split the votes to HER advantage.

With Sarah Palin competing as an Independent, the GOP nominee will most possibly be Mitt Romney, who with Romneycare and his flip-flopping and authenticity problems, infuriates the conservatives to their wits’ ends. The former Massachussetts governor is a favorite of the establishment, the elites and Wall Street so he’ll clinch the nomination but will lose in the general election (because Sarah Palin will split the votes, remember?), thus giving Mr. Obama another four years in the White House. But the president has a lot of problems of his own. AnAP-Gfak analysis of polls show him losing support from key groups of voters that propelled him to office in 2008 (whites, women, younger voters, and some liberals) but come November 6, 2012, the biggest bloc of his base, the African-Americans, will be there and pull the lever for him.

That is, unless, Gov. Palin decides to make a bold move that will split the votes – to pick a VP running mate who can take away votes from both Obama and Romney. Someone who is BOTH pro-business and black. Someone like Herman Cain (or any other black man or woman with private sector background whom Sarah Palin would choose to pick). A pro-business running mate bring down votes for a corporate guy that is Mr. Romney. The black community will not abandon the first black president on election day unless the alternative is another brother in the ticket who knows – really knows – how to create jobs.

    Maybe not,........

All I have at the moment is this tweet from Mark Levin:

BREAKING: GOVERNOR SARAH PALIN TELLS MARK LEVIN SHE IS NOT RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT IN 2012.

No audio yet. Stand by for updates.

    October 5, 2011
    Wasilla, Alaska
After much prayer and serious consideration, I have decided that I will not be seeking the 2012 GOP nomination for President of the United States. As always, my family comes first and obviously Todd and I put great consideration into family life before making this decision. When we serve, we devote ourselves to God, family and country. My decision maintains this order.

My decision is based upon a review of what common sense Conservatives and Independents have accomplished, especially over the last year. I believe that at this time I can be more effective in a decisive role to help elect other true public servants to office – from the nation’s governors to Congressional seats and the Presidency. We need to continue to actively and aggressively help those who will stop the “fundamental transformation” of our nation and instead seek the restoration of our greatness, our goodness and our constitutional republic based on the rule of law.

From the bottom of my heart I thank those who have supported me and defended my record throughout the years, and encouraged me to run for President. Know that by working together we can bring this country back – and as I’ve always said, one doesn’t need a title to help do it.

I will continue driving the discussion for freedom and free markets, including in the race for President where our candidates must embrace immediate action toward energy independence through domestic resource developments of conventional energy sources, along with renewables. We must reduce tax burdens and onerous regulations that kill American industry, and our candidates must always push to minimize government to strengthen the economy and allow the private sector to create jobs.

Those will be our priorities so Americans can be confident that a smaller, smarter government that is truly of the people, by the people, and for the people can better serve this most exceptional nation.

In the coming weeks I will help coordinate strategies to assist in replacing the President, re-taking the Senate, and maintaining the House.

Thank you again for all your support. Let’s unite to restore this country!

    God bless America.

    – Sarah Palin

It will be a surprise to me if Palin does not decide to run. Maybe she is waiting again for the call to be Vice President, or maybe she has too much to hide.

Palin, NEVER was going to run. Her negative were and are too high, and the GOP does not want her in the race.

Also, she would never have won the nomination based on her narrow base and all-time low numbers.

It cannot be put any better than this,……….

Grandma Grifter/Snowbilly Snooki/Caribou Barbie/Bible Spice (take yer pick) Sarah Palin is not running for President and now we will never have to hear about her or from her ever again for the rest of our lives.

    Ha ha. Fat chance.

Like herpes the Snowtrash Family Palin will never disappear and they and the ever-expanding brood of 6-month gestation snowbabies that they keep pooping out will haunt us forever just as Sarah Palin prophesied today:

I will continue driving the discussion for freedom and free markets, including in the race for President where our candidates must embrace immediate action toward energy independence through domestic resource developments of conventional energy sources, along with renewables. We must reduce tax burdens and onerous regulations that kill American industry, and our candidates must always push to minimize government to strengthen the economy and allow the private sector to create jobs.

    [...]

In the coming weeks I will help coordinate strategies to assist in replacing the President, re-taking the Senate, and maintaining the House.

For those who are unfamiliar with the snowgrifter patois, Sarah will continue drawing funds from SarahPac (who will maintain their excellent work fleecing low-income low-information Branson-Americans out of a substantial portion of their disability checks) in order to finance her Grift Across America vacations whenever she feels the need to take a breather from from her Alaskan snowfort or her Arizona meth ranch. Of course it won’t always be vacation time for Sarah Palin as she will occasionally “work”, giving pro-business speeches to trade groups full of horny middle-aged white men who think they might have a shot of playing touch the tit with her, all for the price of a speaking fee and first class travel and accommodations.

Outside of that she will spend more time with her family overseeing the impending pregnancy of Willow, the future diva-hood of Piper and occasionally checking in on and throwing biscotti ends to lil Trigger in appreciation for his fine work as a prop back when she thought she might have future as a politician instead of as a full-time attention whore.

Let's say, this isn't running in this election - the primary filing deadline is too close.

And, she's not electable. Now, nor in the future.

Palin. . .If it wasn't clear before that McCain is an idiot, it should be now.

“Steve Jobs was certainly not a singular man. He was not an—he was an island that touched so many people.”—Palin in an interview with Fox News’ Greta van Susteren, Oct. 5, 2011.

    What an idiot.

No doubt McCain was/is an idiot (couldn't imagine his cabinet selection), in not thinking about what problems might occur if something unforeseen happened to him and if it left her in charge, making decisions for the American people.

Couple of articles (and one poll); one about the debate Tuesday evening, that I thought were interesting because it shows where this race might be going.

    GOP Race Begins on Tuesday

EXETER, N.H. -- No Chris Christie. No Jeb Bush, no Mitch Daniels, no George Pataki. No Paul Ryan either. Nor Sarah Palin. There'll be no reset for the Republicans. The GOP presidential field is set.

So when the Republican candidates square off at Dartmouth College Tuesday night there will be no echoes from the dog that didn't bark. There is no such dog, he has no bark and, because that seems beyond doubt, Tuesday's debate likely marks the beginning of the last phase of the campaign before balloting commences.

It seems as if this campaign has been going on forever. In truth, it begins anew Tuesday night. : RealClearPolitics - GOP Race Begins on Tuesday

Tea party abandons presidential race to focus on Senate

WASHINGTON/CHICAGO (Reuters) – With their favored candidates for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination lagging or out of the race, many U.S. Tea Party activists are shifting focus to the struggle for control of the U.S. Senate.

The fizz has gone out of the presidential contest for some supporters of the fiscally conservative movement now that former (1/2 term) Alaska governor Sarah Palin is not running and Texas Governor Rick Perry and congresswoman Michele Bachmann are slipping in polls.

“No one is going to get perfect in a general election candidate. That is why we think the Senate is a better place to focus,” said Matt Kibbe, president and chief executive of the libertarian FreedomWorks, a Tea Party group.

Taking their marbles and going home: Tea party abandons presidential race to focus on Senate | The Raw Story

And a recent New Hampshire poll:

The WMUR Granite State Poll shows that Romney is the choice of 37 percent of likely Republican primary voters. Surging to a distant second is businessman Herman Cain, with 12 percent. He is followed by U.S. Rep. Ron Paul at 9 percent.

    snip

The rest of the field is filled out by former Utah governor and U.S. ambassador to China Jon Huntsman with 8 percent, Texas Gov. Rick Perry with 4 percent, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich with 4 percent, U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann with 2 percent and former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum with 2 percent.

Former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson and former Louisiana Gov. Buddy Roemer both are below 1 percent support.

    snip

Bachmann has seen the steepest dive in her favorability ratings. When the percentage of those with an unfavorable opinion is subtracted from those with a favorable opinion of a candidate, Bachmann has fallen from a plus-29 percent favorability in July to a minus-18 percent in October.

In contrast, Cain has improved from a plus-19 percent favorability to plus-30 percent.
Romney's net favorability has remained high, at plus-47 percent.

Almost two-thirds of likely Republican voters (65 percent) believe Romney will win the primary, compared to just 4 percent who believe Paul or Perry will win.

    some news,..............

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, just one week after definitively announcing he will not run for president in the 2012 race, plans to endorse Mitt Romney for the job Tuesday afternoon, Fox News has learned.

The event is set to take place in Hanover, N.H., the site of the Republican presidential debate being held Tuesday night. The endorsement will be made in advance of the debate.

Marking a fast turnaround for Romney, the endorsement comes one week to the day since Christie called a press conference in Trenton to end once and for all the speculation that he would make a late entrance into the race.

Link: Breaking: Christie to endorse Romney today

    and there's more,.............

In other news on doors shutting, Rudy Giuliani announced at a Long Island Association event just now that he's not running for president.

Asked by the group's president Kevin Law about reports that he had sent messages to New Hampshire supporters to keep their powder dry, Giuliani joked that they must have gone missing, according to one attendee.

And he added definitively, "If it's too late for Chris Christie, it's too late for me."

It had become clear that Giuliani was not planning to run again, as some of his former and closest supporters have started moving toward Mitt Romney.

He also had an analysis of the race in which he said that Rick Perry has "the heart" of the GOP electorate, and Romney has "the head." And he noted that Perry had backed him in his own race, and that he might be partial to him - although he did not say whether he would endorse anyone, the attendee said.

Transcript here: The Page by Mark Halperin | Complete Transcript of Hanover Economic Debate

Romney held his ground and still seems the only contender that might be electable out of the group.

Cain is a one trick pony with his Bold 999 plan that he sill hasn’t clearly defined. Cain will need more than that plan to move forward.

Little detail has been released by the Cain campaign, so it’s impossible to do a thorough analysis. But using what is available on Mr. Cain’s Web site, I’m taking a stab at estimating its effects.

First, the 9-9-9 plan is actually an intermediate step in Mr. Cain’s plan to overhaul the tax system and jump-start growth. Phase 1 would reduce individual and business taxes to a maximum of 25 percent, which I assume means reducing the top statutory tax rate to 25 percent from 35 percent.

No mention is made on the site of a tax cut for those now in the 10 percent, 15 percent or 25 percent brackets. This means that the only people who would get a tax rate cut are those now in the 28 percent, 33 percent or 35 percent brackets.

According to the Joint Committee on Taxation, only 4 percent of taxpayers pay any taxes at those rates.

Link: Bruce Bartlett: Inside the Cain Tax Plan - NYTimes.com

Perry didn’t fumble during this debate but didn’t stand out any or did Newt, Santorum or Paul.

Bachmann is still looney and again mentioned her 100,000 foster kids.

Huntsman,… I still like him but he’s not going anywhere.

I didn’t like the short segment of the debate letting each candidate question one another. They should keep the backstabbing out of the debate. Except for Romney’s question about new ideas needed to get America back to work,.that was a good question.

Betting odds before and after the debate from Nate Silver's site: A Slow but Unsteady Debate for Perry - NYTimes.com

    and this new poll out,.......

Romney was backed by 23 percent of Republicans in the October poll, up from 20 percent in the most recent comparable Reuters/Ipsos poll carried out in June.

Cain, a businessman who has emerged as a surprise front-runner after proposing a radical tax reform, nearly tripled his support among Republicans in the same period, leaping to 19 percent from 7 percent four months ago.

"In the Republican presidential primary, everybody still says Mitt Romney's the front-runner," Ipsos research director Chris Jackson said. "And he is ... but he's certainly not any sort of dominant front-runner."

Texas congressman Ron Paul was third with 13 percent and Texas Governor Rick Perry fourth, with 10 percent.

    Poll: Cain 30%, Romney 22%, Gingrich 15%, Perry 14%…

Yesterday PPP released numbers showing Herman Cain leading Mitt Romney 30–22 in Iowa and our monthly look at the national picture finds the exact same numbers. Cain is up 30–22 on Romney with Newt Gingrich sneaking past Rick Perry for 3rd place at 15% to Perry’s 14% with Michele Bachmann and Ron Paul tied for 5th at 5%, Jon Huntsman 7th at 2%, Rick Santorum 8th at 1%, and Gary Johnson 9th with less than 1%.Strong Tea Party support has Cain in the driver’s seat nationally, just as he has been on our last four individual state polls. With non-Tea Party Republicans Romney actually leads Cain 29–27. But with the Tea Party crowd Cain is getting 39% with Gingrich at 16%, Perry at 14%, and Romney in 4th place at 13%. Romney doesn’t need to win the Tea Partiers to be the Republican nominee. But he does need to finish better than 4th with them.
There are indications within the poll that Cain’s stay at the top could be short lived. Only 30% of his supporters are solidly committed to him with 70% saying they might still go on to support someone else. Those numbers aren’t much better for Romney, who only has 31% of his supporters solidly committed, or Gingrich, who only has 34% solidly committed. The strongest base of support among the Republican front runners — even if it’s shrinking — is Perry’s — 48% of his remaining backers say they’ll definitely vote for him. Overall 70% of Republicans are either undecided right now or open to voting for someone different than who they’re with now — that signals an extremely wide open race.

    Romney the Inexorable

Mitt shot Perry down in flames-

… "I’m proud of the fact that we took on a major problem in my state. And the problem was that we had a lot of kids without insurance, a lot of adults without insurance, but it added up to about 8 percent of our population. And we said, you know what, we want to find a way to get those folks insured, but we don’t want to change anything for the 92 percent of the people that already have insurance. And so our plan dealt with those 8 percent, not the 92 percent.

… I’m proud of what we are able to accomplish. I’ll tell you this, though. We have the lowest number of kids as a percentage uninsured of any state in America. You have the highest … we have less than 1 percent of our kids that are uninsured. You have a million kids uninsured in Texas. A million kids. Under President Bush, the percentage uninsured went down. Under your leadership, it’s gone up."

Mitt shot Gingrich down in flames, and made good sense too:-

smoothly deflecting Newt Gingrich’s attempt to brand his plan for a middle-class capital gains tax cut as Obama-style “class warfare”:

Well, the reason for giving a tax break to middle income Americans is that middle income Americans have been the people who have been most hurt by the Obama economy. The reason that you’re seeing protests, as you indicated, on Wall Street and across the country is, middle income Americans are having a hard time making ends meet.

Not only do we have 25 million people out of work, or stopped looking for work, or part-time jobs needing full-time employ, we just saw this week that median income in America has declined by 10 percent during the Obama years. People are having a hard time making ends meet.

And so if I’m going to use precious dollars to reduce taxes, I want to focus on where the people are hurting the most, and that’s the middle class. I’m not worried about rich people. They are doing just fine. The very poor have a safety net, they’re taken care of. But the people in the middle, the hard-working Americans, are the people who need a break, and that is why I focused my tax cut right there.

The next circus act, Tuesday October 18th at 8pm……

The debate, which will air live from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. (ET), will broadcast from The Venetian Resort in Vegas. Voters from the 16 states and territories that make up the Western region of the U.S. will be in audience to pose questions directly to the candidates. Let’s hope Newt Gingrich doesn’t give them the Chris Wallace treatment.

Eight presidential contenders will participate in the debate: Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, businessman Herman Cain, former House Speaker Gingrich, former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, Texas Rep. Ron Paul, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum.

CNN’s live and on-location coverage surrounding the debate will begin with CNN Newsroom on Saturday, Oct. 15 and continue through American Morning on Wednesday, Oct. 19. Programming from Sin City along with Cooper will include Wolf Blitzer, Erin Burnett, John King, T.J. Holmes, and Carol Costello. CNN political contributors and analysts also on hand will include Gloria Borger, Ron Brownstein, Alex Castellanos, Ari Fleischer, David Gergen and Mary Matalin. CNN en Español’s Washington anchor Juan Carlos López will host live analysis on that network before the debate starting at 7:45 p.m. (ET). At 8 p.m., CNN en Español will take the debate live with simultaneous interpretation followed by more analysis with CNN en Español’s team of political contributors. The debate will also be carried live on CNN International.

3rd quarter money raised by the front runners,..................

Herman Cain raised $2.8 million in the third quarter and has $1 million cash on hand, according to his campaign.

The former Godfather’s Pizza CEO announced the total during a campaign appearance in Tennessee Friday. He said the campaign had no debt.

The total comes in well shy of the other two front-runners in the GOP race, as former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney raised more than $14 million and Texas Gov. Rick Perry raised better than $17 million. Both men have about $15 million cash on hand.

Cain surged in the race at the end of the quarter, with his victory in the Florida straw poll coming with one week left in the quarter. In the weeks since, he has surged into a statistical tie with Romney atop the GOP presidential race.

Cain's gonna need a bit more than that 2.8 to keep up

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Former House of Representatives Speaker Newt Gingrich’s Republican presidential effort raised $808,000 in the third quarter but has more than $1 million in debt, his campaign said on Saturday.

Gingrich, who launched his candidacy in May to challenge Democratic President Barack Obama in the 2012 election, has called for a balanced budget as well as cuts in spending and corporate tax rates, ideas popular among conservative Republicans.

But he has struggled with low poll numbers and experienced an exodus of campaign staffers over the summer.

And, of course, a big strong expensive military. And make the temporary bush tax cuts for the rich, permanent.

An interesting perspective about tonight’s debate,……

The Secessionist will try to stop the bleeding at tonight’s Republican debate in Las Vegas, but he’s got his work cut out for him: his campaign is folding like a cheap suit.

Consider this. Just last month, in Florida, he was leading all GOP candidates at 29 percent. Today, he’s trailing Newt Gingrich (Newt Gingrich!) at 2.9 percent. That’s a 27 point drop in 4 weeks.

How’s that “Social Security is unconstitutional” message working out for you, governor?

The campaign is also battling new allegations of financial shenanigans and, unhelpfully, it seems like the Secessionist’s Christianist backers can’t stop saying derogatory things about Mitt Romney’s religion.

And how’s this for a shocker: Willard is actually beating the Secessionist among Evangelicals, 51%-39%. That might be the most under-reported poll number of the week.

In short, the Secessionist is constantly playing defense — and it’s not helping that he’s whining about it.

All of this has allowed the Pizza Guy to gobble up the Anyone-But-Romney vote, and take the lead.

If the Secessionist phones in another mediocre debate performance tonight, he could be toast.

And my two cents. I think Perry is already toast and was soon after the GOP god (Rush) spoke: Perry Campaign Reeling Going into Tonight’s GOP Debate | Firedoglake

    and more campaign news,.......

TPM does some digging and finds this bit of awesomeness in Herman Cain's last couple of FEC reports. The Cain campaign spent $100,000 on the company to promote Herman Cain's books and personal appearances, aptly named for Herman Cain.

In the Federal Election Commission (FEC) report his campaign filed in July, Cain’s team reported sending $50,831.35 to T.H.E. New Voice. The expenditures listed included “booklets” and “books” (presumably copies of the handful of short pamphlet-like books available for sale at THE New Voice website along with Cain’s new full-length book, This Is Herman Cain!, published by a division of Simon and Schuster), along with items such as “overnight”, “lodging”, “ground transportation” and “air fare.”

Around the time the campaign filed its latest FEC report which was due Oct. 15, the campaignrevised its old report and listed two expenses that went to THE New Voice: $36,511.20 for “books” and a separate $50,011.35 expense listed as “See Below,” indicating the money went to “books” as well. An amended report is meant to replace an original report, meaning the money the campaign first said they spent on “overnight”, “lodging”, “ground transportation” and “air fare,” is now simply listed as “books.”

In Cain’s Oct. 15 report — the latest from the surging Republican — the campaign listed $14,425.91 more going to THE New Voice for “event supplies.”

Herman Cain isn't the first Republican to raise questions as to whether his campaign or PAC is a front for personal business interests. Gingrich and Palin are two recent examples that come to mind. What boggles my mind is how they don't even attempt to hide it anymore.
