There always seems to be a "Pityme" sector of society at any given time. This is what Fox is catering for, and the self pity of it's tone on being called out on their obvious bias, the 'we're all doomed' bleating of Beck, the unrelenting 'blame the government' stance, the underlying racist themes (at the core of much of the opposition to healthcare- you don't think we know), and the more overt II bashing- it all caters to their self pity and feeling of disenfranchisement, and of course fuels it. There always has to be a scapegoat- Honkies, male chauvinist pigs, Commies in the past- now it's Obama, and what a perfect choice to feed paranoia and prejudice- 'foreign', black, Moslem, libbie, funny name. And Potus.

The fact that the financial crisis has hit minority communities hardest of all, well I doubt that would even have been mentioned on Fox. It's the 'billy bobs' that are the Pityme crowd now.

Faux news are the equivalent of the SA and Gestapo during Nazi Germany, they are there to motivate the troops and feed the propaganda

That's much more than you'll get at the other networks.

i'll take your word for it.

but in all seriousness, they do have a couple of real reporters on their payroll. but it's clear they were hired to help create the illusion that fox is a legitimate news organization. but the white house finally tore down that illusion in a very public manner....it's now acceptable for politicians and members of the legitimate media to talk openly and frankly about the partian bias on fox.

sure fox got a boost in ratings over this...but so what? this spectacle will cause some independents to tune in and see what all the rucus is about....but in the end fox only gets around 3 million viewers/day..in a country of 300 million.

and what's more...those independents are actually going to watch fox and see it for what it is....and they'll turn away in droves... from fox itself, and the republican party.

come 2010 and 2012, i think we'll see that this was a very crafty (and necessary) move by the white house.

Fox News Channel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

By the end of the first quarter of 2009, Fox was beating CNN and MSNBC combined in the ratings and is now the second highest rated cable network.[37] When the quarter ended on March 31, 2009, Fox News's primetime ratings were up 23% compared with the same period a year before.[38] The quarter ending June 30, 2009, Fox News shows held all ten positions for cable news with an overall increase of 33% in viewership.

Among basic cable networks, Fox News was ranked third for the month in prime time viewership behind only USA Network and TNT, with CNN and MSNBC lagging behind at 15th and 26th, respectively, while continuing to battle each other for third place in cable news.

Well the difference is that Oprah is entertainment where Fox News is a bona fide, legitimate news agency. The two can't be compared with each other.

This seems to be the issue at hand. Just so you don't think I am blinkered, MSNBC is not a bastion of unbiased news reporting either.

    so what's your point, einstein?

that more people watch reruns of "law and order" than watch fox?

or that in a nation of 300 million about 1.5 - 2 million more people watch fox than cnn or msnbc?

    so what?

    honestly, what's your point?

if those numbers indicate anything its only that a certain segment of the population (middle-aged, white, not so bright), finds fox to be 'entertaining'.
if it was straight news, they wouldn't be getting anywhere near those numbers.

and btw, why do you care what other people watching from 8 -11 PM on weeknights?

it's somewhat surprising to me that anyone would care that 3 million dullards are sitting on their sofa night after night to find out what they're supposed to think.

you know what i mean, einstein?
do you know who i'm talking about ?
    do you?

Whilst comparison's and whatnot are helpful I think that the core of this issue is being lost somewhat in the 'yeah but [insert other network/programme etc] is just as bad' or 'but it's more popular than [insert other network/programme etc] (because that's ever been a valid measure!) chorus.

Despite what some are suggesting the reason that Fox has attracted the ire of the Whitehouse is not because they've disagreed or some evil Socialist plot on the part of the Govt. to silence dissent - it's because they have consistently, repeatedly and deliberately misstated, misrepresented and distorted the messages that the Whitehouse has been putting out.

And why bother with the effort to constantly correct and defend what you shouldn't have to in the first place? Rather cut it off at the source.

^Both. I was actually going to use Boon Mee as an example - he posts what even he must surely know to be misleading or distorted information, and when taken to task on it simply ignores it, shifts the posts, or posts even more misleading information. What he never does is address the inaccuracies or correct himself.

Well, that was the example I was going to use. But then I decided it might be a bit unfair so I didn't.

    Hmm, apparently not!

If poor, desperate old Jet has posted something original that wasn't a C&P from freerepublic or somewhere it will be delightfully refreshing to post a refutation to it with some evil libbie facts.

The problem I am having now is trying to work out if Obama is a failure because he can't get anything done or if he is destroying America with his actions? Both positions seem to be in the current talking points circulation but the righteous outrage™ proponents can't seem to agree on which one to spout.

take a look at the look on this fox guy's face at the end of this clip.

he looks like he's about to cry.

    priceless!

this is exactly what fox fears---people openly stating what they are.

Well, that was the example I was going to use. But then I decided it might be a bit unfair so I didn't.

I think nowadays the fight has gone out of the old fella, used to be that he would argue til he would just wear you down with moving the goalposts and flinging shit at you and then claim it as a victory. But I think most of us that know him, know not to take him seriously, because to be honest I don't think he takes it seriously himself, he probably laughs just as much at the Republican supporters here that swallow everything he says and gets their panties in a twist as much as the rest of us that get irate and try to argue with him.

Did he realise the site he quoted from (The Peoples Cube) was a piss take? Probably not, but the point for him is it got a reaction. Boon Mee is an agent provocoteur and a good one at that, and unlike a lot of the loony fringe on here he doesn't get nasty or hold grudges... so carry on Boon.

BTW that site is f**king funny, It doesnt really care for either side of the argument it just takes the piss, off topic but check out the article on communist and facist symbolism being banned from clothing in Poland, there's a piss take about it and then one of them comes up with the idea for a Che-Dolf T-shirt... you got to see it, that's f**ked up!!

Here's the link.. The People's Cube - Poland to Ban Che Guevara's & Hitler's Images I dare you to wear one!
