There are some things that even the might of the US armed forces cannot do . . . oh, and find, let alone capture Osama Bin Laden
Your car dealer has free internet? Nice.
So anyways, I take it then that you agree with me; that the US has, in fact, made me personally less safe and secure since 9/11 and that they actually contribute zero to my personal safety.
A reasonable assumption
The Toyota and Benz dealerships in Phuket have that too, it's pretty nice. I think the Chevvy dealers offer it also but I don't go there because I don't want a rebranded Daihatsu.Originally Posted by AntRobertson
It won't be a popular idea, but I also think that the reaction of the US to the attacks of 9/11 was misguided to say the least and haven't helped at all. I am pretty sure I'll be the first person pointing this out on this forumOriginally Posted by AntRobertson

Misguided??? That's an understatement... More like a bunch of monkeys fucking footballs...
Yes, through it's misguided 'War on Terrorism' and invasion / occupation of foreign countries, the US has made the world a less safe place than before 9/11...
My tone may surprise some, but personally I am not enthused with the decisions & performance of the US government for some time and I am not the only US citizen to feel this way... We are presented with candidates from the red & blue teams and are asked to decide between the two based on promises for change and as a popularity contest... Once elected, will they act in the interest of their constituency or for their own personal gain??? Once elected, politicians become a member of the 'club' where money & power can & will sway the strongest advocates for an issue... In the end, who actually runs the country, politicians or lobbyists???
Bush was re-elected in 2004 as he was the lesser of 2 evils and Americans voted for no-change during a war, maintaining the status quo... A known idiot is better than an unknown idiot and Kerry was truly a loose cannon... The economy in the US was booming also (and we all know why), so this added to Bush's numbers...
Americans clearly wanted change in the 2008 elections with the looming financial crisis, unemployment, ongoing wars around the world and the damaged image of the US... BO represented this change as McCain represented the old republican power base and would have continued Bush's agenda... Not even mentioning the governator of Alaska... Regardless of perception, Obama was clearly the better candidate...
Give a man a match, and he'll be warm for a minute, but set him on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.
^ Obama gave the people hope before he was elected. What has he done with that hope? He's crushed it.
Oh, I just wanted to add that Martin Luther King Jr was a registered Republican.![]()
Let's get this thread back on track.
From Politico. Obama to declare war on banks:
" Already Obama’s rhetoric is reflecting what aides acknowledge is a strong undercurrent of populist anger. By these lights, impatience with the status quo — rather than any rightward turn in the mood of the electorate — is what would fuel a Brown victory.
Reflecting his new tone, Obama last week announced a new fee on big banks by vowing, “We want our money back, and we’re going to get it.”. At a House Democratic retreat a few hours later, he said leaders need to be “fighting for the American people with the same sense of urgency that they feel in their own lives.”
In his weekly address on Saturday, he declared: “We’re not going to let Wall Street take the money and run.” Saluting Martin Luther King Jr. in remarks to a Baptist congregation the next day, Obama railed against “an era of greed and irresponsibility that sowed the seeds of its own demise.”
At the rally for Coakley, he added: “Bankers don’t need another vote in the United States Senate. They’ve got plenty.”
White House senior adviser David Axelrod told reporters that Democrats will not allow the midterm elections to become “a referendum on this administration” but, instead, will force Republicans to defend the role they have played in the economic crisis.
And press secretary Robert Gibbs said a key theme of 2010 will be asking voters “whether the people they have in Washington are on the side of protecting the big banks, whether they’re on the side of protecting the big oil companies, whether they’re on the side of protecting insurance companies or whether they’re on the people’s side.”
President Obama plans combative turn - Mike Allen - POLITICO.com
So one minute he is asking Wall Street to help get the economy moving & the next minute he declares a special 10 year tax on them to pay money given to freddie & fannie - demo slushfubds.
Barack Hussein Obama lying polecat. Libs Only Comply With Laws They Agree With.
Correct, according to some agencies of the US Military and Security services. Came out and said so in public before the 2008 election, as I recall. Republicans and other Bushies just ignored it.Originally Posted by AntRobertson

Yes...& I realize this might qualify as a shocker - I do agree with you re the world is less safe since 9/11 but it wouldn't be any safer if the US had 'rolled-over' and not exacted some payback.
I'm clearly going to the wrong place then. Mine has a crappy little room with a water cooler that never has any cups and a bunch of ratty magazines, circa 2001.Well then it's a double-shock because I likewise agree with you (although it's conjecture).Yes...& I realize this might qualify as a shocker - I do agree with you re the world is less safe since 9/11 but it wouldn't be any safer if the US had 'rolled-over' and not exacted some payback.
Back to the Obamamessiah...heh, is the Brown win in Massachusetts BO's Waterloo or what?
A conservative economic philosophy is basically built around the maxim 'user pays'. I doubt a conservative, neither for that matter any fair minded person, would have any problem with the levy or tax on the larger end of the banking sector, considering their collective arses were bailed out by the taxpayer at considerable cost. Put it this way- the total tax over a ten year period comes to roughly what these Banks will be paying in bonuses this year. Som nam na.Originally Posted by dotcom
A Republican 'economic' philosophy however comes down to parroting what the well funded corporate Lobby groups say. Different thing entirely.
There is absolutely no anti-Obama mileage there, au contraire. Unlike his latest sweetheart deal with the Unions, excluding them from the 'Cadillac' health plan levy for a number of years. Thats bullshit.
The reason (there is no excuse imo) is obviously political- pandering to a reliably pro-Democrat demographic, keeping them on side with pork barrel politics. So it's no different to dubya's pork barrel to Old Farts, a reliably pro-Republican demographic- namely the unfunded extension of Medicare pharmaceutical subsidies to seniors. Both blatantly political, cynical, hypocritical.
The sad state of modern Politics.![]()
I was merely pointing out the hypocricy. Bambam is following Saul Alinsky "Rules for Radicals" "Create Enemies" Banks are enemies.
Bambam thinks government creates jobs. Cuz he's an idiot.

How many public servants are there, local, state and federal? Affiliated agencies? I realise that a certain loony segment wants no public servants . . . but they're just nuts, aren't they?!Originally Posted by dotcom
No it isn't- but neither is it good news for the Dem's or the declining USA, for several reasons.Originally Posted by Boon Mee
Firstly, I think not just Croakley, but Obamateam stuffed it up badly. They were caught napping, and it seems to me will pay a heavy price for their apparent complacency. Perhaps Obama isn't anywhere near as politically savvy as we thought.
Because (Secondly) there goes the all important 60th Senate seat. So, unless somebody can be 'prized loose' in the Senate (unlikely), there are only two options remaining for health care reform- which, whether you like to admit it or not, or even realise it or not- is a major Issue facing the USA, and frankly one on which Obama has staked much of his credibility.
Either a yet more watered down version will be passed via reconciliation, which I consider by far the most likely (and necessary) route. Or HC reform fails, again. In which case it will not be revisited for a long time, if ever- and frankly, your great countries further decline is Writ large. And Obama becomes, deservedly, a one term President. Imo. Whichever way it goes, the politics will be contentious. Whichever way it goes, it is not good news for the US, or Obama.
Like all great nations before it in the relative or absolute Decline stage, the USA has become effectively ungovernable. Sure, order is maintained, and people eat OK- but the preservance of the status quo to benefit entrenched, vested special interests only entombs the vigour and competitiveness of the Nation going forward. You'll only realise it when it's too late, as always. Yours is a fractured nation.
Strange how history just keeps repeating itself.
Anyhow, I remain a Meritocrat at heart- and I think congratulations are in order to Scott Brown for a vigorously contested, well run campaign. He (as opposed to his party) deserved this victory, and he pulled the rug from right under the Democrats with good old fashioned elbow grease. Kudos.
If there is a Heaven, I do feel sorry for poor old Teddy Kennedy.![]()
I feel sorry for Mary Jo Kopeckne.
Anybody remember about a week ago when bambam cut a crooked deal with the unions so they avoided paying their fair share of taxes?
Bambam is sleeze. Kennedy Kerry = sleeze. Arrogant people who assume power is their birthright.
The culture of entitlement.
Kerry is entitled to his seat. Beau Biden is entitled to his father's seat. ad nauseum.

Poor Obama. Campaigns for libbies in New Jersey, Virginia and the bluest of blue states, MA, and all his libbie candidates LOSE. We won't include what happened in Copenhagen. Teddy must be turning in his grave! Pour another scotch over it to pacify his soul.
Obama is in BIG doo-doo. The MA senate race was, IMO, a referendum on his policies. The libbies will blame it on Coakley (55555), but that ain't what folks see.
The next week will be interesting. BO's got seven days til his delayed S of U address. Reid gonna ram thru HC for him? BO has zilch to report except failures on all fronts. I give him an F for his first year in office.
