In 2023, the BBC launched BBC Verify, "a specialist team of journalists" that is supposed to "fact-check information, verify video, counter disinformation, and analyse data to separate fact from fake, and to bring clarity on complex issues."

However...

BBC Verify, which was started to combat disinformation, reported in February 2024 that car insurance quotes were higher in areas with large ethnic minority populations, even if road accident and crime levels were similar to other places.

The story featured on BBC Breakfast, the One and Six O’ Clock News, Radio 1 Newsbeat, Radio 5 Live and the BBC’s TikTok channel.

The BBC (BBC Verify) called it a car insurance "ethnicity penalty".

Six months later, they pulled the story because it was “not fit for purpose and spread damaging misinformation”.

BBC Verify needs to go. It can't be trusted anymore.

Not sure about this one. Was the original story factually correct, was there an ethnic penalty in certain areas? If the original story was factually correct, then was it pulled because of woke pressure?

Or was the original story simply incorrect? If so they could have called it 'incorrect', rather than 'spread damaging information.' The latter sounds like China.

and if that area has a high proportion of non brit ethnic inhabitants, e.g. birmingham, bradford, tower hamlets etc. then will be called an ethnic penalty by those who seek to push the "racist brit" agenda, e.g. the bbc, the guardian. and will be believed as such by those who adhere to that agenda.

the insurance companies will say, factually and correctly, that it is down purely to the high crime rates and high number of claims made by people living in that area.

My mate insured his mini when he lived in Tower Hamlets over 50 years ago and it cost him more than it would have cost me in Essex. At that time you could not have alleged any ethnic bias. Although Tower Hamlets was, and remains, different.

tower hamlets, although it has a very high proportion of ethnics, is one of the safest areas in london. it has a high proportion of bangladeshis, and they are considered a law abiding bunch, at least when it comes to anti social crime. bradford, however, with its large pakistani population is considered one of the most dangerous and crime ridden cities in the country.
