    TeakDOOR Bible Study Class

The lush and lovely Cheddar Trio are in wistful worship mode this week with the beautiful Psalm of David Number 50

    Shivers your timbers that one...

I think they are maybe singing it in the original Aramaic so this is the translation

Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy kindness:
According to the abundance of thy mercies, blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.
Against You, You only, have I sinned, and done what is evil in thy sight:
So that You are justified when You speak, And blameless when You judge.
Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.
Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being,
And in the hidden part You will make me know wisdom.
Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy kindness:
According to the abundance of thy mercies, blot out my transgressions.

    Praise teh Lord!

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."

That's as much as I can remember from my Bible study classes at Sunday school many moons ago.

I am watching Jesus of Nazareth from 1977 this week to get in that Jesussy Christmas mood. I remember watching this on Sunday nights when I was 8.

It is a 4 parter of 1 hour 45 each

So glad that Franco Zefirelli passed over Hoffman and Pacino for the mystically magical gaunt and spooky Robert Powell as the Messiah.

    TeakDOOR Bible Study Class-jn-6-jpg

Powell is superb and breathes a new kind of life into the scripture quotations with which we are so familiar. His voice is perfect as well as his appearance and aura.

During the nativity in episode 1 it was only when the wise king Balthazar opened his mouth that I realised that it was James Earl Jones who did Darth Vader's voice. I don't remember making the connection back in 1977.

It was filmed in Morocco and Tunisia and the sets were left in place and then opportunistically re-used in 1979 by Monty Python for The Life of Brian!

It is a good adaptation since it takes minor liberties in conjuring a credible narrative around why Joseph was willing to accept his vestal virgin was up the duff ex Deus. A young Ian McShane also makes good mileage out of the creative narrative around Judas Iscariots politically internecine background and motives.

I finished Part II tonight and it does quite a detailed and biblically accurate narrative around the beheading of John The Baptist, which was Herod's daughter's bargain for performing a dance at Herod's birthday party.

That is why the bible is the most rockinest holy book on the planet... Because it does not shy away from a splash of hardcore gore!

^Powell does not actually have blue eyes. That photo seems to have been shopped.

In the TV show you see his natural grey-green eyes with dark rings around the iris borders, which are actually quite ethnically authentic for the fertile crescent.

As are his wavy brown locks.

    OK

I can't find confirmation for that.

    Nevermind

    Are Green-Gray Eyes Rare?

Green-gray eyes are considered rare, as they are not a common eye color. According to studies, only abut 2% of the world’s population has green eyes, and an even smaller percentage of people have gray eyes. The rarity of these eye colors is due to the amount of melanin in the iris. The more melanin present, the darker the eye color, while a lack of melanin produces lighter eye colors, such as green and gray. However, it is important to note that eye color can vary greatly depending on genetics and environmental factors. Some people may have a combination of green and gray in their eyes, making them even more unique. if you have green-gray eyes, you can confidently say that your eye color is rare.

More biblical beauty from the Cheddar Trio

    - A prayer -
A poem written in 1858 by ILIA CHAVCHAVADZE, great Georgian poet and statesman (1837 - 1907)
In 1987 Ilia Chavchavadze was canonized by the Georgian Orthodox Church under the name Ilia the Righteous

    LYRICS IN ENGLISH:

Our Father, which art in heaven,
I’m on my knees, pitying, before Thee!
I ask Thee no wealth, no glory,
I don’t want to profane with it the Holy Prayer.

I want instead my soul to be enlightened by heaven,
And my heart to be lit with love commanded by Thee!
And even for my foes that try to pierce my heart with dart
I ask Thee: “Forgive them, oh Lord, for they know not what they do” (x 2)

    ^Sounds like a good series

This movie is quite a festive giggle with plenty of high energy musical numbers.

Even manages to weave some wokery into a fresh-faced Nativity tale without really spoiling the fun

I am interested as the idea of fcuking an inexperienced woman does not send a rush of blood to my loins

So having a woman's point of view would help my education

I read years ago that the word "virgin" was mistranslated in the Bible, and in the original Aramaic, it simply means a woman who has never had a child.

You read it somewhere once, years ago? So no actual source then?
