UNRWA confirms that killed Hamas leader was one of its employees.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has confirmed that Hamas’ leader in Lebanon was one of its employees, but noted that he was under investigation for his political activities.

Fateh Al Sherif was killed in an Israeli air strike on the southern Lebanese city of Tyre on Monday and was identified by Palestinian reports as the head of the teacher’s union of the UNRWA (see our posts at 9.43am and 8.07am).

In response to a query by the Times of Israel, the UNRWA said: “Fateh Al Sherif was an UNRWA employee who was put on administrative leave without pay in March, and was undergoing an investigation following allegations that UNRWA received about his political activities.”

Al Sherif is understood to have been the head teacher of the UNRWA-run Deir Yassin secondary school in Tyre.

Here's why Iranians support Israel.

I have seen many comments on Reddit doubting or denying support for Israel in Iran and I decided to make a short post to explain the reasoning behind it. And I'm not talking about diaspora at all. I believe that a distaste for the Palestinian cause inside Iran is even stronger than among the diaspora who generally live better and more prosperous lives.

First of all, the vast majority of Iranians see the Iranian regime's foreign policy as bloodthirsty and a waste of the nation's wealth and potential for the sake of foreigners when it could be used to better the lives of Iranians, many of whom live in extreme poverty. For decades now, Iranians from various social groups have chanted "Neither Gaza, neither Lebanon, my life for Iran". You hear this chant in every single political protest.

Secondly, Iranians are very skeptical about Islamist movements. In particular, they see Hamas and Hezbollah as arms of the Iranian regime abroad. They feel sympathy for Israelis who have to deal with these groups as they have to deal with the Islamic regime's thugs constantly.

Third, Iranians don't share ethnic bonds with Palestinians and even among the ever-shrinking religious population, sympathy for them is low as they aren't Shia.

Finally, many people believe that the regime uses the members of these groups to suppress the protests in Iran. I don't know whether this is true or not but it is a widely held belief.
