Brexit: Merkel vows to fight for orderly process

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said she will fight for an "orderly Brexit" until "the very last hour".

Mrs Merkel said that current events were in a "state of flux", adding that European Union leaders will try to react to whatever the UK proposes.

The UK is due to leave the EU in 10 days with or without a deal.

PM Theresa May is writing to European Council President Donald Tusk to ask for an extension to the process and will meet EU leaders later this week.

At home, a new vote on UK Brexit deal has been blocked by the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow.

The deal has already been defeated twice by MPs, and Mr Bercow has ruled that Mrs May cannot bring it back for a third vote without "substantial" changes.

Anyone else following the Leave campaign trail from Sunderland to London? I thought a few TD Brexiteers might have joined the masses...

Apparently it is around 50 hard core followers with a few day trippers swelling the numbers (to ~100). No Farage since the first hour, but I'm sure he'll pop back if the numbers swell.

Not quite a Wat Tyler, our Farage, but I'd like the same outcome.

I saw a video the other day talking about what will be Putins next move - as his popularity is waning a bit and always in the past he has used a bit of military expansion to bolster the fans

the option put forward was a bit of expansion into Finland or Sweden

Well the bolded part is what they've said, of course.

It's more likely imo that representatives of no. 10 will privately admit what is obvious to everyone. They will say behind closed doors that the country is in crisis. They've tacitly admitted this already.

This 'you must have a plan before getting an extension' thing is just political posturing imo.

So May will go there with a fudge that constitutes a 'plan' in her vacant mind, and the bosses will wearily assent.

^^ Apparently the Maybot is going to the EU with the plan of a short extension to end of June, while she gets her deal through Parliament, with the option to extend longer.

She should be asking for a 5 year delay, until the next EU parliament elections, with an option to leave earlier if her deal is ever agreed.
