If Sessions resigns, Rod Rosenstein is acting AG. Does Trump want him to resign too? Then it would be Rachel Brand. She's no puppet, either.

And good luck, Mr. President, in getting your new AG nominee through the Senate. Moderate Republicans would feel a lot more pressure this time around. Remember who introduced Sessions at his confirmation hearing? Susan Collins. 1 out of 3 senators who could easily vote against confirming a new AG.

Lastly, what would all the other AG nominees do? And US attorney nominees? It would be a political disaster.

quite frankly, this is one of the stupidest posts i've ever read on this forum...and that's no small feat.

    congrats, james.
So you believe a US subpena is a world wide court order, that's how all the drug lords, arms dealers and dictators have had thier money confiscated, NOT, all out of business now, get real.

Sure if Trump was getting kick backs from the Ruskies, he would not have had transfers to through US banks.

You have little idea about how the world works and the simple answer for you, it's all Trumps fault.
    Get a life.

Axios' initial launch partners are JP Morgan & Chase Co., PhRma, Boeing, BP, Bank of America, Koch Industries, S&P Global, United Health Group, Walmart, PepsiCo and Cooley LLP. [3]

The company launched with a mission statement that consisted of, “Media is broken—and too often a scam.” It planned to focus on "business, technology, politics, and media trends".[2] Furthermore they disavowed the use of banner ads, pop-ups and clickbait titles, using native advertising instead. The article style was focused on brevity, clear structure and often features bullet points.[4]

A July 2017 overview on the use of unnamed sources in US political reporting highlighted Axios (alongside Politico) as a publication that is "targeted at political junkies" and "in particular often float[s] 'scoops' predicting that something will happen that never does".[5]

his orange head is going to explode...

Mueller reportedly looking into Trump's family business as part of probe

Special Counsel Robert Mueller is examining a broad range of transactions involving President Donald Trump's businesses and those of his associates, a person familiar with the investigation told Bloomberg.

Investigators are examining Russian purchases of apartments in Trump buildings, Trump's involvement in a New York development with Russian associates in SoHo, the 2013 Miss Universe pageant in Moscow and Trump's 2008 sale of a Florida mansion to a Russian oligarch, according to the Bloomberg report published Thursday morning.

They are also looking into the Bank of Cyprus, where Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross served as the bank's vice chairman before taking his current role. Trump's son-in-law and aide secured financing for some of his family's real estate properties through the bank, someone familiar with the inquiry told Bloomberg.

Mueller's investigation is said to have stemmed from a money laundering investigation started by U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara, who Trump fired in March, Bloomberg reported.

a few more details on that noose...

The three prongs of the Mueller investigation: Trump's finances, direct election interference and hacking, and the actions of Michael Flynn.

What Mueller has his eyes on: Trump's interactions with Russian businessmen seem to be the biggest focus, including the Agalarov-funded Miss Universe pageant in Moscow in 2013 and the Russian ties to the development of the Trump SoHo hotel.

Also on the table: Jared Kushner, Paul Manafort, and Wilbur Ross' ties to the Bank of Cyprus — a prime destination for Russian money laundering — are reportedly of interest.

Meanwhile, Exxon is fined $2 million for violating sanctions against Russia by sneaking behind the government's back to sign agreements with it.

    Now a quick quiz question:

Which current US Secretary of State was CEO of Exxon when this took place?

Trump team seeks to control, block Mueller’s Russia investigation

Some of President Trump’s lawyers are exploring ways to limit or undercut special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s Russia investigation, building a case against what they allege are his conflicts of interest and discussing the president’s authority to grant pardons, according to people familiar with the effort.

Trump has asked his advisers about his power to pardon aides, family members and even himself in connection with the probe, according to one of those people. A second person said Trump’s lawyers have been discussing the president’s pardoning powers among themselves.

Trump’s legal team declined to comment on the issue. But one adviser said the president has simply expressed a curiosity in understanding the reach of his pardoning authority, as well as the limits of Mueller’s investigation.

“This is not in the context of, ‘I can’t wait to pardon myself,’ ” a close adviser said.

WaPo report: Trump said to ask about pardon power for aides, family, himself

The Washington Post 'breaking' headline: Trump lawyers exploring pardoning powers and ways to undercut the Russia investigation, people familiar with the effort say

    Will likely weigh on USD/JPY

It hasn't hit Bloomberg nor Reuters as far as I can see ... the newspaper's page is reporting that headline only (the one I have in italics above)

    OK, here we go, more:

    will manafort flip?

Former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort is being investigated by special counsel Robert Mueller for possible money laundering as part of his investigation into Russian election-meddling, the Wall Street Journal reported late Thursday. The Journal reported both the Senate and House intelligence committees are also investigating Manafort for money laundering. Manafort worked for years as a political consultant for a pro-Russia party in Ukraine, and led Donald Trump's presidential campaign

He seems to be sending a strong signal that pardons are in the offing for everyone involved. That would provide a lot of incentive for not cooperating or even perjury.

We never discussed anything with the Russians. We never colluded with the Russians. Collusion isn't illegal.

    But perjury is illegal.

    So much winning.

Sessions discussed Trump campaign-related matters with Russian ambassador, U.S. intelligence intercepts show

Russia’s ambassador to Washington told his superiors in Moscow that he discussed campaign-related matters, including policy issues important to Moscow, with Jeff Sessions during the 2016 presidential race, contrary to public assertions by the embattled attorney general, according to current and former U.S. officials.

Ambassador Sergey Kislyak’s accounts of two conversations with Sessions — then a top foreign policy adviser to Republican candidate Donald Trump — were intercepted by U.S. spy agencies, which monitor the communications of senior Russian officials both in the United States and in Russia. Sessions initially failed to disclose his contacts with Kislyak and then said that the meetings were not about the Trump campaign.

One U.S. official said that Sessions — who testified that he has no recollection of an April encounter — has provided “misleading” statements that are “contradicted by other evidence.” A former official said that the intelligence indicates that Sessions and Kislyak had “substantive” discussions on matters including Trump’s positions on Russia-related issues and prospects for U.S.-Russia relations in a Trump administration...

I almost feel sorry for the racist, poisonous, little dwarf. Oh no my bad, that was just some indigestion. Fuck him.

It does all remind me of some bit I read a while back though about how Trump has a tendency to use/abuse and burn through people who are close to him like Sessions was once they're no longer of use to him.

    perhaps.

i think the possibility that this could be part of a russian misinformation campaign should be considered. the russians know that their communications are being monitored, so why would they openly talk about this?

something seems off about this....maybe like the fake NSA docs that were shopped around a few weeks ago...an attempt to discredit the news media.

Trump Jr. and Manafort reach deal with Senate panel to avoid public hearing
By Miranda Green and Manu Raju, CNN
    Updated 0159 GMT (0959 HKT) July 22, 2017

Washington (CNN)The leaders of the Senate Judiciary Committee have cut a deal with President Donald Trump's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., and former campaign chairman Paul Manafort to avoid being subpoenaed for a high-profile public hearing next week, with the two men agreeing to provide records to the panel and to be privately interviewed ahead of any public session.

In a joint statement, panel Chairman Chuck Grassley and ranking member Dianne Feinstein said, "(W)e will not issue subpoenas for them tonight requiring their presence at Wednesday's hearing but reserve the right to do so in the future."
Feinstein tweeted later Friday evening, "The Judiciary Committee will talk to Trump Jr. & Manafort before they testify in public, but we will get answers."
Last week, Trump Jr. told Fox News host Sean Hannity that he would testify under oath about his recently revealed 2016 Trump Tower meeting with Russians, where he attempted to get dirt on Hillary Clinton.
But after the Senate Judiciary Committee invited him to attend a public hearing, the President's eldest struck the agreement to avoid it, instead going behind closed doors.
Sources familiar with the matter say no date has been set for his and Manafort's private interviews with the committee.
A source familiar with the committee's thinking says there was incentive among the committee to make the agreement with Manafort and Trump Jr. because there was a recognition that they were unlikely to appear in a public session.
But the threat of trying to force them to appear publicly and to issue a subpoena was enough to get agreement from the two to provide records and to interview them quicker than they otherwise would have liked, a source familiar with the discussion says.
The threat of subpoenas for the two is still very real, two sources familiar with the committee's thinking say.
The committee has issued a subpoena for Glenn Simpson, the co-founder of Fusion GPS, the political firm that compiled a dossier of unverified information compiled for Trump's political opponents.
Attorneys for Simpson say he will not accept the committee's invitation to testify Wednesday.
Grassley and Feinstein said in their statement: "Glenn Simpson, through his attorney, has declined to voluntarily attend Wednesday's Judiciary Committee hearing regarding compliance with the Foreign Agents Registration Act. Therefore, a subpoena has been issued to compel his attendance. Simpson's attorney has asserted that his client will invoke his Fifth Amendment rights in response to the subpoena."
The subpoena was served by email Friday afternoon.
Also on Friday, the House intelligence committee announced it will interview Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner on Tuesday as part of its probe into Russian efforts to influence the 2016 election. Kushner is being interviewed by the Senate Intelligence Committee on Monday.

Sessions showed disloyalty to the SCROTUS by recusing himself. Nothing unexpected. Just ask the former head of the FBI.

Trump relishes fights, and creates plenty of them. But now he's in a real one, with special counsel Bob Mueller signaling that he plans an expansive, exhaustive investigation aimed at Trump, his relatives, and current and former political lieutenants.

One West Wing confidant says Trump really might dismiss Mueller. So POTUS needs "a group that can fight through what could end up being something quite amazing."

"We're going to see out-and-out political warfare, and not over ... Medicaid," the confidant said.

As Matt Miller, the MSNBC contributor and former Obama Justice Department official, tweeted after the revelation that Trump was digging dirt on Mueller and contemplating pardons: "Takeaway from the Post & NYT pieces is we are headed for certain crisis. Trump just will not, cannot allow this investigation to go forward."
