Timeline for the six day war relating to the Golan and the USS Liberty incident.
5th June 1967 Israel bombs Cairo, destroying Egyptian air-force.
Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon simultaneously attack Israel.
Israel informed Commander Ernest Carl Castle, the American Naval Attaché in Tel Aviv, that Israel would" defend its coast with every means at its disposal, including sinking unidentified ships", and asked the U.S. to keep its ships away from Israel's shores or at least inform Israel of the exact positions of US ships near Israel, which, of course, the US did NOT do, but instead ordered the USS Liberty to steam right into the Arab-Israeli war-zone!
Meanwhile, Syria launched attacks on Israel, shelled and bombed Northern Galilee, bombed Tiberias and Haifa,while Israel counter-attacked, destroying much of Syria's air-force, on the ground.
6th June 1967USS Liberty, of the US Navy Sixth Fleet, which was positioned in the mid-Mediterranean, somewhere between Libya and Crete, steamed at top speed (without an escort, which was refused) towards the Sinai Peninsula, mid-point between Egypt and Israel, right where any potential Egypt-Israel naval battle might be expected to be staged.

At the Golan, a ceasefire is declared, which is promptly broken by Syria, whereupon fighting resumes, Israel driving Syrian forces further back into the Golan, neutralizing Syrian artillery emplacements along the Golan Heights border.
9th June 1967 At around 2pm Israeli aircraft attack USS Liberty.
Israel continues moving up into the Golan.
10th June 1967 Syria announces the fall of Quneitra, hoping to bring in Russian help, but the plan backfires, causinf the remaining Syrian army to panic, desert their positions and flee the Golan, which Israel then captures and keeps.
The 6-Day War ended that night.
