Christmas weekend sees deadly spike in Chicago shootings.

CHICAGO - Police in Chicago said Monday they were investigating 27 shootings -- 12 of them deadly -- that occurred on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, a remarkable spasm of violence there in what already has been a historically bloody year.

Chicago police superintendent Eddie Johnson told reporters that many of the recent shootings appeared to be gang-related.

"We now know the majority of these shootings and homicides were targeted attacks by gangs against potential rival gang members and groups who were at holiday gatherings," Johnson said at a press conference.

"These were deliberate and planned shootings by one gang against another. They were targeted knowing full well that individuals would be at the homes of family and friends celebrating the holiday," Johnson said.

The Christmas weekend violence occurred during a year of record bloodshed in America's third-largest city.
With a week to go before the year is over, more than 750 people have been killed in Chicago in 2016, marking the first time in nearly two decades that the number of homicides has exceeded 700, according to the Chicago Tribune newspaper, which has been tracking the violence.

It's difficult to be more pro-gun than I am, but this, like open carry is just plain insane.
There is no legal use or need whatsoever for silencers or any non-criminal reason to have one.

Lend me your ears: Federal bill would remove restrictions on buying silencers

    Published time: 10 Jan, 2017 22:19
Gun lobbyists are backing new legislation to make silencers easier to buy. Contrary to expectations the bill, which has the backing of Donald Trump, Jr, wouldn’t be fought as a Second Amendment issue but one of public safety.
The bill, Hearing Protection Act, HR 367 argues that silencers safeguard the eardrums of the nation’s 55 million gun owners. It would remove restrictions on the purchase of silencers for firearms under the National Firearms Act, and eliminate a $200 tax, lengthy paperwork and a nine-month approval process.

The bill was reintroduced in the House by Representative Jeff Duncan (R, South Carolina) and Representative John Carter (R, Texas).

I have one for a 22LR pistol for the exact purpose listed on the article you quoted.

In a vast majority of states you can legally shoot on your own property as long as you have a backstop. State of Florida thats basically anywhere as for the most part they only have federal firearms laws. I don't use mine for the safety of my own ear drums but for the annoyance of neighbors. I have 17 acres though so its not like I my property is in a suburb, and I could shoot 5.56 all day if I wanted to, but I don't want to annoy everyone. So sometimes I plink with the silenced pistol.

There are surely a hell of a lot more gun owners than that no doubt.

Yep, I see nothing wrong with owning a silencer or 3 but of course the only reason to have one is to kill people

You can easily get around the noise issue by using .22 shorts in a revolver (the 22 short doesn't have enough energy to cycle a semi-auto). Hardly any sound at all just a tiny pop. The close up assasin's weapon of choice, or indoor target practice with telephone book.

    Whoaaa yeah USA! USA!

It's not safe to let in some old lady from Libya, they are a risk to the 'Merkin people.

But Nutters should be able to buy guns!

Washington (CNN)The Republican-led House voted Thursday to repeal an Obama-era regulation that required the Social Security Administration to disclose to the national gun background check system information about people with mental illness.

The regulation instituted in the final days of the Obama administration required the SSA to share information about those who are considered incapable of managing their own disability benefits due mental illness.
The rule sought to limit the ability of those with mental illness to purchase guns but drew criticism for casting too wide a net and not providing the opportunity for due process. Opponents of the rule, including the National Rifle Association and the American Civil Liberties Union, also said the broad range of reasons that could be used to designate someone for the SSA database include conditions that should not stop a gun purchase.

San Bernardino shooting: Boy, 8, and two adults dead at California primary school

Two adults and a child have been killed in a shooting in a classroom of a primary school in San Bernardino, California, police say.
The suspect shot and killed his estranged wife, a teacher, and wounded two children who were behind her, one of whom died of his wounds.
He then turned the gun on himself, police said.

Police chief Jarrod Burguan described the incident as a suspected "murder-suicide" attempt.

The shooting happened at 10:30 local time (17:30 GMT) at North Park Elementary School in San Bernardino county, 60 miles (96km) east of Los Angeles.

The gunman, named as 53-year-old Cedric Anderson, had gained entry to the school as a visitor and kept his weapon concealed until he opened fire in the classroom where 15 children with special needs were being taught, authorities said.
He killed his wife Karen Elaine Smith and fatally wounded eight-year-old Jonathan Martinez, who was airlifted to hospital but later died.

A nine-year-old pupil remains in hospital in a stable condition, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Mr Burguan tweeted shortly after the incident that the suspect was "down" and there was "no further threat". The school was immediately evacuated.

This was yesterday. Gotta be one of the most bizarre shootings for a while.

Father kills son in shootout over who would walk the dog

A family argument over who would walk the dog turned deadly when a dad shot and killed his son during a wild shootout Sunday in Chicago, police said.

Bullets flew at the South Woodlawn Avenue home in the city’s Burnside neighborhood around 8:20 p.m. after the dispute broke out between the men, ages 43 and 22, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The double shooting was the result of a “fight [between] father & son as to who was going to walk the dog. Both shot at each other,” Chicago Police Department spokesman Anthony Guglielmi tweeted.

Both men, whose identities were not immediately released, were shot multiple times and the father was critically injured, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The younger man was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he later died.

Cops discovered two weapons at the scene.
