Frum cuts right to the quick here. The republican base likes it's political candidates to at least have a 'strong' image (although they are generally chickenhawks). Romney doesn't- he has been pushed from pillar to post by pandering to the populist right, and he really has no message left if indeed, he ever had one. All of his previous positions have been overturned, and his only real political achievement is an embarassment to him before his own party base. His succesful business career is being used succesfully as a battering ram against him too.
He inspires no enthusiasm or personal identification- not within the diehard republican base, and crucially not among the swing voters, who really have little idea who this Mitt guy is and what he stands for, beyond being just another suit who made out like a bandit. Perhaps this guy, who was certainly a successful business leader, has been sold downstream by the campaign advice he has been following. Perhaps, the message he has to sell is so threadbare it never stood much of a chance anyway (outside of the usual diehards). Or perhaps he is just not political leadership material- unable to sell a coherent vision, unable even to sell a hot dog at a fat show. Because really, campaigning in a weak economy, when people are hurting, is a politicians wet dream.
Yes, I indeed think Mitt is going to lose- but even more so, the Romney campaign is lost. There is no campaign left to speak of, besides "hey look at me, I was successful (and i'm not black)". Not as a politician, Mitt- you have come up short. I'm sure this is being discussed within the republican party machine- it's well and truly time to take your party back from the teabaggers, chaps. They have done you no favors at all, and you have done yourself no favors pandering to them. Piss Weak- which is something a republican hates to be called.

btw, this campaign star is a totally dishonest person. He got laid off in 2001, his wife was working and had health insurance for two years after he was laid off. She got sick and died in 2006 in five years later, why didn't get a job sooner than that. How can he blame anyone but himself for the decisions he made.
