Influx into the US

One thing never mentioned in the media is, "where are the jobs" for all of these people entering illegally (and legally). In recent years the number of adults out of the work force has been at the highest levels ever, and yes with an over-supply of people applying for job openings, 500,000 new social security cards have been issued. A recen Federal Reserve report says this latest influx has depressed wages.

All this for a political agenda to keep the Dems in power for decades to come

The administration's program to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival program has given the green light to 664,607 since 2012, including several linked to fraud, terrorism and gangs, according to the U.S Citizenship and Immigration Services agency.

What's more, applications for permanent residence have surged from 3,000 to 7,500 a month, far above projections, according to agency answers provided to Senate Judiciary Immigration and the National Interest Subcommittee Republicans and obtained by Secrets.

Between 2008 and 2012, 819,000 people entered the US from Mexico. In contrast, 1.9 million migrated from 2003 to 2007, representing a decline of 57 per cent according to figures from a US Census. These figures do not distinguish between legal and illegal US immigration.

Fleeing crime and violence

Rather than seeking immigration to the US to find employment in the construction sector as was previously the case, Mexicans are now arriving in the United States fleeing crime and violence in Mexico, mainly due to drug wars between rival cartels and gangs.

'Those arriving are much more likely to be naturalized US citizens coming back, English-speaking, better educated, older and female, compared with those Mexican immigrants arriving in the US decades ago', said Saenz.

Unauthorised Mexican immigrants

A similar study conducted by the Pew Research Center, shows that illegal Mexican immigrant numbers in the US has dropped since 2007. In 2007, 6.9 million unauthorised Mexican immigrants were living in the United States.

In addition due to economic factors and changing migration patterns, by 2010 the net migration figure had likely reached zero according to the Pew Research Center study. Pew added that since 2010, more Mexicans have departed the US than arrived. Therefore since 2010 more Mexicans have left the US than have arrived in the US.

The Pew Center's research seemingly disproves recent comments made by prospective Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump, who said that unauthorised Mexican immigrants are 'flowing in like water' across US borders.

However, despite numbers dropping since 2007, in some US states Mexicans make up around 89 per cent of the total illegal immigrant population, with California having the largest concentration of illegal immigrants from Mexico with 1.6 million.

It is a bit ironic that blowhards like Trump are trying to make this an election issue, because it just serves to highlight the effectiveness of the Obama administration in this regard.

ILLegals will do lower paying jobs. (They also start contracting businesses in framing, painting, pressure washing, and tree surgury and undercut citizens.)

When ILLegals go legal (which is the point of my thread) they will enter the labor force where there are at least 6 applicants for 1 single job opening. I think many will enter the statistics of underemployed, on medicaid and competing for low paying cash jobs such as Wal-Mart.

And yes, government and business like these influxes of illegal - and legal - labor. People with the equivalent of an education up to age 12 (which is not uncommon in latin america), or the equivalent of a high school education in the home country.

I hope this thread stays on the topic of jobs - or, a lack of jobs, that is.

As for Sabang's Pew research article, there are many stats in it that cannot be corrorborated. Not saying they are false, but saying it's difficult and perhaps not possible to check.

Wages of America’s middle class have dropped below 1970s levels as immigration has surged 325 percent, according to a new congressional report that questions claims that native Americans are economically helped by greater immigration.

The nonpartisan Congressional Research Service report studied immigration and middle class income from 1945-2013 and found that as immigration slowed between 1945 and 1970, American incomes increased.

But when immigration expanded, the incomes of the bottom 90 percent of Americans went flat and then dropped beginning in 2000.

In the report to the Senate Judiciary Committee, the CRS reported that the foreign-born population of the United States surged 324.5 percent, from 9,740,000 to 41,348,066, from 1970 to 2013.

And as that happened, incomes of the bottom 90 percent dropped 7.9 percent in 2013 dollars, from an average of $33,621 to $30,980.

The report could throw cold water on congressional efforts to expand immigration for tech and other jobs. One bill, sponsored by Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch and backed by presidential candidate Sen. Marco Rubio would boost guest worker levels and remove any cap on green cards for certain foreign graduates of American colleges and universities.

Was reading an article earlier today about SS and how money is being borrowed out of the trust fund to pay today's recipients. And how we're looking at major changes by around 2033 partially because we don't have enough young people paying in. Goes on to note how nobody seems to notice there is an asterisk (*) on your annual statement where your estimated benefits are proclaiming what "you may get" unless changes are made. Goes on to talk about a current surplus of $$$ in MEDICAID and attributes that too ... Illegal immigrants.

We need immigration reform ... And we need it fast.

"immigration reform" is a bullshit term.

It's "let more ILLegals in to search for jobs that do not exist and have them go on Medicaid.

Many ILLegals do not speak their native first language of Spanish well. Quit school at 10-12-13 years of age.

What jobs will be available to them when they go legal?

Many are getting work permits now to legally work.

There are already TOO MANY people applying to wal-mart.

^ Problem is ... Old people are living longer and the baby boomer generation only averaged about 2 kids per couple. And generations that followed are only averaging something like 1.7 kids per couple. And those old geezers already collecting SS aren't going to vote to reduce their benefits any time soon.

What do you mean there aren't any jobs? The trucking industry consistently reports a severe shortage of drivers and many companies provide CDL training.
