@Booners and Misskit,
You both make really good points and this has always been a systemic issue. Yes people have the freedom to move around the US at will to find a new job. However its stressful and disruptive especially if you own a house and have family and children in schools. Another option is to switch careers if they so chose. Most will not. Making a paradigm shift in professional careers is challenging even for the best and the older you become and the more established one is the harder that decision becomes. Plus changing a career or moving to a field that is booming does not guarantee a job and of course salaries are commensurate to the related experience plus adjusted to the cost of living in the area.
So the question is why should people be displaced and forced to move from where they live because illegals have come in and taken many of the jobs? Now being fair I do not think the illegals are taking career positions. They cannot. But they are coming here and taking a segment of jobs that could be filled by young adults while going to school etc. The bigger issue is the cost to the government to manage it ultimately raising our taxes.
Putting a wall up does nothing. As was said before the way to stop it is severely fine and punish businesses or anyone for that matter that hires an illegal alien of any race. House keepers, Yard workers. Keep the lawyers away from it. Its like a ticket with a HUGE fine and that's that.
But outside of that there are significant issues like businesses that only charge cash for services or food etc. I have an acquaintance who owns a Vietnamese Pho noodle house. He has been in the US for 20 years. Its a cash only restaurant. It really irritates me that he will sell say 500 bowls of soup a day($7.95 for med $9.50 for lg) and more on weekends. He only shows 1/3 of of what he sells on his taxes. Plus he uses family members to cook to avoid payroll taxes even though he pays them all under the table. Its this part of American business that politicians are overlooking which costs taxpayers a hell of a lot more and burdens the honest hard working middle class. The Mexicans do the same with their restaurants, The Chinese with theirs. They have found a way to live outside the system and exploit it. They always mule cash back to their home country and do not put it here. Their kids go to school free. Being they are considered minorities their children have access to free college grants. They keep their businesses right at the break even point so they get special consideration of being at the poverty line. Its a mess.
My opinion is we can yell all we want about illegals, its moot. Our system needs to be revamped but there are now way to many politicians in the decision making process that it will be a game of smoke and mirrors to get the facts. The US is to concerned with being PC and sustaining that global "Land of the Free and Home of the Brave" nonsense and have become a group of waffling bureaucrats and likely loads of them are getting kickback. We scream Thailand is corrupt, are you kidding me? The US is likely the most corrupt country in the world. We just hide it better and we have scum bag lawyers to make it too much effort to change anything.
While you may agree that a Presidential candidate sees the root problem I would bet a crisp new Ben Franklin neither he or she will never change it. Our constitutional rights guarantee it.
Carry on with the debate. My input from the cheap seats.
^ Very good post, JPPR2.
The displaced workers problem has been happening a while now in poorer areas of the USA. Now happening in California where more attention is paid.
You mentioned the foreigners doing cash only business. Not only them. My father complained to me the other day that his long time mechanic and the local muffler shop had recently refused his bank cards or check. He was thinking they did it to avoid bank fees. I suggested it was to avoid taxes, which distressed my law abiding dad.
Misskit. Its the new way of doing business to avoid paying taxes and reap pure cash. It is happening in tons of small business segments. Gardening, Landscaping, Tire shops, Car detailing, mobil auto repair. Some come right out and say it will cost you xxxx dollars but if you pay me cash I will give you 20% off. People will always take the 20% off. Even gas stations now have a Cash price versus a debit or card price. They say its to avoid merchant fees. I say BS. Our government is quite a mess from the top down.Quote:

Ohh Yeah BM. People are spending copious amounts of time to find ways to work around the system to avoid taxes and quite frankly I do not blame them. However as you know the bad part is as more people do that it just burdens the others doing it by the system. As I said the entire system needs an over hall. I have already told my daughters that after I am gone, Cash will be King and be sure to have some in the bank as credit will not likely matter.
Learned from big business who move operations off shore to avoid taxes and as a by product put far more US tax paying workers out of work than foreign workers taking US jobs. Major tax reform is long overdue.Quote:

Its all a bunch of fuzzy warm stuff. Hard line decisions takes guts and are not going to be popular. Its not about being liked, Its about being respected. People spend too much time trying to be liked. But the big question is; If the People of the US voted in a candidate that took this aggressive approach could he/she make a difference? Can they really affect change or are we kidding ourselves and what it is...is what is?
If its the latter then why vote?
Only if the "people" reach the point where they are mad as hell and will not take it anymore. Having an aggressive reform minded Prez is useless unless Congress is on board with needed reform.Quote:

As long as we allow our reprsentatives in government to favor big money special interest groups voting will only result in getting the least objectionable candidate elected.
The Occupy Wall Street Movement sensed all was not well but fizzeled out due to poor organization, vague objectives and far too passive tactics.
Reversing decades of government encroachment into to the rights and wishes of it's citizens is going to take more than a vote. Will take a grass roots people power movement with millions rather than thousands of active participants to repair a very broken system.
Personally, too old and without the passion I once had to take on the powers that be. Only hope the young see the need for change and follow with mass demonstrations to rectify the many issues that need fixin. In the case of the OP, job protection for US workers. Goes way beyond getting laws that allow foreigners to work in the US. Workers must again restore a robust collective bargaining organization to protect themselves. Our politicians and employers have proven they have no interest in doing so.
Burn baby burn. :)
I think that this American-Mexican rapist (according to Trump) hits it on the head:

^ Funny. Though the truth is, many illegals have money, speak English very well and are well connected. They aren't all uneducated Indians from Oaxaca.
^ Never. Would love to though. Oaxaca must be very primitive compared to other areas of Mexico.
My favorite state in Mexico. Oaxaca City has some of the best Indian Markets and the surrounding area is rife with Aztec Ball Courts - big history there. See some more comments re Puerto Escondido and Bahias de Huatulco in the Mexico Thread M/M started.
Actually, Chiapas, the next state south is real primitive. The Indians threw out the Priests from the big cathedral up in San Cristobal de las Casas a hundred years or so ago and now do the Voodoo thing with chickens in the sacristy and all througout where the pews used to sit!

What's it gonna take to get 'em to go home? :chitown:
^ From the same op Ed.
The cost and disruptions of such a plan, both economically and politically, could be enormous. The conservative American Action Forum, for example, figures it would take 20 years and $420 billion to deport the 12 million illegals here now.
Talk about turning America into a police state!
Trump's plan is a lot of airy fairy crap. Wishful thinking on the part of the supposed 59%
Trump will make them pay for it themselves and make it happen in one week
