Naklua Thai Sea Food Restaurant - Moom Aroy

This is I believe the biggest Thai seafood restaurant in Pattaya, Jomtien or Naklua, this place is massive, this is right at the end of Naklua where the road bares round to the right to go out to Sukhumvit, don't bare round to the right though follow the road a bit more, the building is about 4 storeys with air con inside seating, the rest sits outside over looking the sea, although the sea is pretty awfull there so just after sunset is the time to go.

There is no sign in English, but the sign in Thai says "Moom Aroi" ie delicious corner, it has a smoking area which consists of 2 seats just outside the toilets the menu is god knows how many pages long, as there was about 30 of us and they were all Thais I didn't bother wasting my time looking at the menu as there would no doubt be 50 different dishes brought up.

Picture of the building from the parking area.

It had a live band and they were using Bose speakers which I got to admit are pretty damn impressive, supposedly some Thai tv series is filmed here, no idea which one.

Yeah we got about 50 dishes, only one bad point, the restaurant had a good few hundred customers and no where near enough waiting staff, a lot of the time the only one we had was a 6 month pregnant Thai lady who had to keep taking breaks, there was a few complaints about that.

    One of the seafood curries.

Thai fish cakes, these were quite nice, don't normally like them so was suprised.

Really no idea what this was so didn't chance it, could have been boiled pigs penises for all I know.

Some spicy beasty thing that nobody in their right mind would eat.

We had about 5 different sorts of Tom Yum, the seafood had massive chunks of fish that you had to cut them before you ate them, these wern't minnows thats for sure.

All in all pretty good although a bit nippy this time of year.

Moom Aroy has been one of my most favorite sea food reataurants for about 3 or 4 years now. Nice environment and not to pricy. Plenty of parking and room for large groups if that is a consideration. Make sure it isn't raining outside if you plan on going there as almost all of the seating area is open air. Thumbs up for Moon Aroy!!!

Yes, nice place, food has always been nice, scenery is good, prices are reasonable. I like going about an hour before sunset as its quite nice at dusk. The band will start later on in the evening...after 8pm or there abouts. Place can get quite busy at times, always safer to go earlier before the thais rock up. Very few speak english so good to have someone with you who can speak thai. Have your transport sorted out though, getting there is easy enough if you know where you are going and charter a baht bus but coming back is a whole different story. They have guys outside waiting around for people leaving but of course want 3 or 4 times the price you paid to get there and don't really care if you use them or not. They use to have a guy running a van who was reasonable price wise, but wasn't to be seen last time I was there in Nov.

Mom Aroy does good reliable food, and reasonably priced- cheap when you consider the nice surroundings. It's one of our regulars for Thai/Chinese seafood. My favourite dish is the deep fried seabass topped with a mild somtam. Theres another Mom Aroy on Third road somewhere apparently.

One hint- if you leave a tip, give it directly to the service staff. Apparently the greedy Chinese owner hoards all the tips left on the bill for himself, at least so my wife was told by one of the serving staff.

If your driving out of Pattaya towards Bangkok drive through the lights at Naklua and then you will see Bang Lamaung police station on the left. Turn left there, drive about 400 metres to the end of the soi and then turn right. It is then about 100 metres on the left hand side and on the bayside.

I love the fried salted small sand whiting fish and the rest of the food is more than acceptable. Not too expensive and the ambience is good. They do a good sumtum polimide with fresh prawns and if you ask them nicely!

Our local Restaurant and which is only about 10 minutes drive from my front door!
Well worth the experience and a big 8 out of 10 overall.

I still prefer the food and prices in Preecha Restaurant in Ban Umphur.

^ The other way, from central Pattaya, is just take the main road through Naklua, which starts at the Dolphin roundabout. Keep following it, through the entertainment area, past the seafood markets, through a local commercial & residential area. Never veer off- it ends abruptly at a carpark and upscale condo complex, and Mon Aroy is on your left with plenty of parking around. About 3.5 km from the dolphin, at a guess.

One of my favourites. Hoy Jor. Which is crabmeat rolled up and fried. Give it a try DD , nothing to be squeamish about. You sometimes find these with prawn meat or even chicken at the ' Gy 5 daow stalls ' ( 5 star chicken )
