Pattaya's New Central Mall - Some Pics

Took a walk around the newest addition to the Pattaya playground ,Central Mall that just opened up near beach road.

I like the place and think it is a very upscale modern mall in true Bangkok fashion , obviously some serious cash went into this place

I'm not a big shopper , but there are some very good stores in this mall

I counted at least 3 book shops a bunch of computer stores and clothing shops

Mainly I'll go there for food

The food court is really nice and there are some good

restaurants located on the upper floors

Above pic - Dim Sum place called Canton had a promotion as was only charging 15 baht per dish - I was sure there was a catch but it was true - so this spread with a cup of tea was only 85 baht, not to shabby

Very modern looking inside and nicely air conditioned

lovely couple doing some shopping and showing some cheek

some of the funniest bathroom signs I ever saw - looks as if they already shit themselves

These birds were defiantly overpriced for Pattaya

Tasty looking baked goods in this shop

Tough time for the vendors in this place but with the good selection of restaurants I hope it does well

Have not been down to have a look at the place yet but expect to find a lot of Thais enjoying the air conditioning and a lot of Russians walking aimlessly around and not spending any money.

Another Pattaya "white elephant" I expect.

This place could be the end of the Royal Garden Plaza as i can't see them both surviving in the current climate, Mikes Shopping Mall should be ok though as they sell all the knock off gear.

I remember when they opened up Seacon Square and the Seri Centre shopping Malls at the same time almost next door to each other on Srinakarin Road just off the famous Soi Onnut.

Seacon Square boomed and Seri Centre busted and I expect the same will happen with this new monstrosity.

It would really interest me to learn about how they came to the decision to put up such a mall when the place is riddled with them already.

    Well lets wait and see!

Seems a Thai retailer planning process. Bangkok is a prime example of overbuilding malls.

Was mentioned in another post but from the few pics in this thread sure doesn't look like many customers wandering around much less buying.

    Doubt it will survive long.

I think this place will close Royal Garden up for sure.

Decent piece of land Royal Garden sits on and maybe they can build another View Talay on that plot

I heard that the government were going to 100% remove all counterfeit gear from Thailand during the next three months.
    Mikes could be in trouble.

Quite ironic the Mike Shopping Mall is owned by a bloke who almost become the mayor of Pattaya last election!

I don't think either the new mall or Royal Garden will survive in the current economic climate... Som nam na...

I don't get it - you could fire a cannon thru most of these places (with exception of the food court) and not hit anyone.

And I've never seen anyone one buying anything in the hi-so stores. The staff typically outnumber the customers 4 to 1.

The rent must be astronomical in these places.

Like that gaysorn place. Great short cut from the BTS but do you ever see a customer in there?

I guess with the prices they charge they only need one customer a day to break even.

The economics of Thai retailing perplex me. In Udon there is a newish Homepro and Index mall, both the biggest in the country particularly the Index, it would take half a day to do a proper walk around and yet both devoid of customers.
Dozens of bored staff hiding around but customers, conspicuous by their absence. Whoever did the research that led to them spending Billions putting up stores in Udon should be shot.

In shops like that though PP you don't see the customer who has a new office coming in and buying 75 new desks and chairs or the guest house refurbishing buying 80 new beds etc.
