I recently took a drive to Sattahip and the fishing village of Samae San on the mainland. We travelled to a marine nature conservation area where there was a pier with a ferry service to Samae San Island. It was an interesting place which I had been to before , it’s run by the Navy I think. There is a lookout on top of the hill with a Buddist shrine but they asked me for 100Baht to climb up there so I declined.
On the way back through the village my girl said ” please can we go and see the Plaa Cartoon” I don’t think many expats would know about this place which breeds clown fish & others for sale and release back in to the wild. I was fascinated by the set up and surprised to see such a large operation with millions of Bahts worth of tropical fish being raised. It’s not easy to find & there’s not much information in English , 20 Baht entry.
Also on the outskirts of the village there are stalls on the side of the road selling dried squid and fish, seashells and other aquatic things.
My Mrs says the squid is much cheaper than at Naklua fish market, so of course we had to buy heaps to send back to Isarn , stick it in the boot before driving back to Pattaya !
