What's the very best car Polish?

'The once a year Car Polish' it says on the bottle, but when you read the small print it says give it two! Anyway it is not much cop.

The glaze has gone off my seven year old Car and I would like to see it gleaming again.

    Any ideas?

It'll need more than polish. A cut 'n polish actually. A fine compound is used to remove the top layer of paint.

You can do it yourself but you'll probably bugger it up so get it done professionally.

It's cheap to get a detailing done with proper rubbing compound, polishing compound and polish and wax. I think you're in Pattaya, and can't recommend any, but surely it's available there.

when I was in Malaysia, there was a bunch of guys offering to make your car look like new again...all sorts of buffing and cutting compounds in their box

I wanted to sell my car so I got them to do it...it did look briiliant and it sold quickly. Cost about $15 then, £10
    I have reported your post

Go to any Toyota or Honda dealer. Ask the the do the "Premium" polishing.

Its what all the new cars get every 6 months to protect from high UV.

Its very good and they do all the hard graft. Polishing cars is a bitch in this heat. Better to let Somchai take care of it

    Its about 300 baht.

wehn the see the logo on the website below, you'll know what i mean.....

    premium carcare service

Most polish available here is shit, look out for anything by Zymol or Meuguirs or Zaino.

If you can import some Zaino, or Meuiguirs or Zymol products

    McGuire's 'Three Step'

    Three different process's and cans.

Step one removes grime and cleans paintwork like a mild T Cut that ordinary washing will not do.

Wash car with soap and water when you have cut it back with Step one product.

Apply Step two which is a good polish, (do not apply in direct sunlight)
this will bring the shine back to the paintwork and give it a good glossy wet look appearance.

Step three is a wax which seals the shine and protects the paintwork.

After this it will only need washing on a weekly basis.

Note; Use washing up liquid not car wash detergent to wash car after this process.

Yes they do have a fantastic line of automotive products, and all of the above are available here too, Auto Glym, Meguiar's, etc. They also have CRC products that has been a major problem for me to get here, I found that most of them are located in electronics stores, the one I was seeking the most was brake cleaner and what a project it was to find something like that!

It'll need more than polish. A cut 'n polish actually. A fine compound is used to remove the top layer of paint.

Yeah that way they can bugger it for you!! But it's true it probably needs a good compounding. I am forced to disagree a little bit here though. Compound is intended to remove the old wax build up along with the oxidation that dulls the original paint, generally if you are taking off amounts of paint it is because it is old and that is where the damage usually comes from when others compound, by not recognizing soon enough when they are over-polishing.

It's other effect is to smooth down minor scratches by virtue of it having pumice contained in it which is a mild abrasive similar to what's in powdered bleach. Turtle wax compound is also available, you might also try Carrefore too last time I was in there I think they had several decent products.

Here's a funny story in a masochistic sort of way. I bought a nice orbital polisher from Carrefore, a 10" model instead of the usual smaller 8" more commonly used here (I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere about size but surely I jest) some 4 years ago and after I used it a few times I needed new polishing cloth's of course.
I went everywhere and found the very same polisher at numerous places but not a single friggin replacement cloth to be had anywhere!
So for 3 years I had a beautiful new polisher I couldn't use for anything until guess what? I found the True value store!! Cool! Now I have new cloth's but.... I don't have a car..

I also had problems finding things like brake cleaner since I do all of my own automotive work. CRC products can be found there too, previously I had only found them in electronics supply stores, and amazingly brake cleaner was what I wanted most besides some electronic parts cleaners. Of course I also found that now that I don't have a car either, it was also quite expensive compared to the States. But without using brake cleaner I am wondering how the mechanics around these parts are cleaning off new brake parts and other dirty parts? I guess like so many things here, mai mee or mai dongkarn!

Come to think of it..... I don't have a job either so if you want to bring your car down to Phuket for a few days I'll polish it for you but I don't work for Thai rates, but then again I won't bugger it up for you either! I also don't do turtles...... Only clean, fresh clams

Same with vacuum cleaner bags. Places like Tesco & Carrefour sell the vacuum cleaners, but you have to find a 'mom & pop' place that stocks the bags. Amazing Thailand!

Try "ZAINO" wax and car care products. Do a Goggle on "ZAINO" and you can see all of their products. Not sure if they ship to Thailand.

I find that the freshly rendered fat of a new-born Burmese baby, mixed 99-1 with Newfoundland spermacetti and a dash of paraffin, works a treat.

    Maybe in the '70's.... lol

As Ant says get it cut and polished professionaly to restore the original finish, or if you just want it to shine use TurtleWax shampoo and polish like Cockwork sez innit, (surprisingly he knew something at least) meeeeeeow!
The best...? For home use probably the Autoglym range and for professional use 3M.

Try using a Meguiar's "Mirror Glaze #34" (Detailing Clay) first followed by Cleaner/Wax #6 (MGH-6). If you have oxidation on the paint you may need a cutting compound to remove this before appling any polish or wax. once finished a MGH#7 will keep your finish looking wet. Happy rubbing!
This video may help you. Enjoy!

Meguiar's stuff is excellent, its readily availble here, even in Udon but at a rip off price so I pick up a couple of bottles when I go to Aust at about 25% of what they ask for it here.
Puts great shine on yer knob as well.
