It's not for me.
I've decided to go for the Speed Triple. Will check out the Triumph shop this month and see what they have on offer almost new and keep checking up online too but between Dealfish and Bahtsold there's not much on offer right now.

Lang may yer lum reek...
It's good you decided on a model- narrowing your search down makes it easier to find what you want, and Speed Triples come up fairly regularly.
You should also toss up posts on the various Thai big bike/superbike/whatever bike sales pages on Facebook asking if anyone has a Triple they want to sell- don't put up your phone number to avoid being hassled, but see if anything interesting comes up.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Good shout some nice bodywork on this one! https://www.facebook.com/TriumphThailand?fref=ts

I like it in purple, but I'm not picky.
Purple is nice but perhaps the blue one comes with better headlights
Arranged to view this beast as soon as I get out of Korea.
Almost double budget but hopefully I can arrange finance for the extra 50% and pay it off in 8 months.
2012 Speed Triple, cos let's face it, the Street Triple is for girls.
So, in the end I bought this:
I don't know HD at all- what model is it? And what happened to the Speed Triple?
2008 HD Sportster/nightster 1200cc. 1,700kms, green book, 1 year insurance. 480k
I couldn't not buy it!
^ nice stuff, mate. Enjoy.
I can't green you because a speed tripple (older style) would be my dream bike.
Looks big! Better get your forearms pumped up and ready for the job!
Thanks Rick, I'll get some more pics soon as the bike is in Phuket. My old boy has a Sportster too so I didn't need a test ride, just got a friend in Phuket that has a chop shop to check it out. The reports were all good so I sent the cash and the bike is waiting for me to get back from Korea in about 10 days time and I'll ride her back to Songkhla.
Just missed out on a limited edition Dyna Lowrider which would have been nice too.
Good luck to you, you'll be hard pushed to find a deal like this. I may keep it for around a year and sell it on for the same, which will still be a bargain.
Let me know when you get ready to sell. I should have the house done by then and in the market. I think the Sportsters are better for Thailand. Not too heavy and good maneuverability with plenty of power, but still has a nice ride.
It would be great to get my Heritage over to Thailand in parts, but still have reservations about that even though I hear it can be done. I love my ride and ride it often.
Happy riding and be safe!!
Have you looked into the possibility of having it shipped here due to studying?Originally Posted by rickschoppers

Not yet. Have you done it?
Forget trying to ship a bike in, yes I did it many years ago and you don't have a chance in hell of doing it now.
Only reason police can't take my bike is I only used engine which I paid tax on and the frame, also every single piece on the bike I have listed with receipts bought in Thailand.
Just not worth your hassle for a 500,000 baht bike as that's what your bike is worth with out book, and a lot less if your papers aren't 100% to get the book.
^^
No. But about 10 years ago I read of a NZ guy who had come to Thailand to study. He had previously studied in Japan and he gave a step-by-step account on how he got his bike shipped here and registered.
Being a student he was allowed to ship certain possessions over to Thailand.
Don't know what he was studying or where, or even if just having an 'ED' visa allows a person to ship stuff here. Maybe you can check it out at your local LTO.
Ten years ago you could, try it now
For one. New import rules, new bikes only.
There are a load of Suzukis about to be released. Jap imports at semi-reasonable prices.
Some new Thai made Ducatis at semi reasonable prices.
The cheap 500cc Honda twins at 200,000 baht.
A new Honda 650 inline four (Thai manufactured) possibly reasonably priced.
The Kawasaki 650s at around 300k.
Even on a small budget the used market has completely fallen out of the Kawa 650s and Honda 500s.
Benelli have some inline fours for cheap (Chinese made with Italian flags all over them. )
Thanks Rigger, I did hear a few months ago from a guy about changes in the importation of big bikes but only that it was no longer possible to get used bikes from Japan due to corruption, but I thought perhaps there was maybe a loop-hole or two that could be exploited. Hence why I mentioned getting a bike in via being a student.
The new import rules, does this also apply to students studying here? Or is it only to prevent companies importing used bikes?
The new Ninja 1000 at 629K might be the best current performance value going at the moment- ABS, traction control, integrated panniers (at additonal cost)- for LOS, it's a lot of bike for the money if you want something in the 1000cc range.
The new Ducs (as mentioned) are also nice for 500K-550K. If I was looking at spending a bit over 300K for a 650cc Kawasaki, I think it would be hard not to pony up a bit more for the Z800.
Good things have been happening as far as bike prices and availability go in LOS.
I decided awhile back to not even try getting my HD over to Thailand, but I can always dream. I just hate to put down the same cash for a bike as I would for a new eco car.

You get over the ridiculous payment eventually- provided you manage not to biff it, the bike retains quite a bit of its value as well if you ever decide to change or upgrade to something else.
