    Anybody have a CNG Altis?

If so, how do you find it. I noticed there's no airbags which I find aa bit worrying. In this CNG car, can you use petrol too (do they have 2 seperate fuel systems) or only CNG? Anybody with CNG have problems filling up? The missus says on the Thai sites there are many complaints about lacking of fill-up stations?

With the price of petrol increasing, I'm thinking about a change. I have a Honda City and wouldn't want anything smaller. The missus just wants to convert the Honda to LPG, but I'm worried about: 1) Thai conversions; 2) losing the Honda warranty.

The Focus Diesel is maybe a bit expensive at over a million, as a Prius would be too.

Mitsubishi do a CNG, but in a shitty older, cheaper version of the Lancer - I don't like it.

If the new Honda Civic came with a hybrid, diesel or CNG/LPG engine that'd be perfect, but I think the new Civic will just come with the same old engines...

I don't really know of any other alternatives.
    Cycling should be banned!!!

Why? Not as dull as a Toyota and go round corners better than a Honda.

CNG or NGV stations are more prevalent than LPG as most taxis run it. Its going up in price, but not as much as was wanted due to the protests. Yes of course you can run both petrol and the gas.

My wife bought a Camry new two years ago and they let her keep the warranty when she converted it to LPG. Saving is amazing. She goes 400 kilometers for 500 baht. I go 480 for 2,000 now. There are plenty of stations to fill the gas, you just must find the time or the place where there is not a big taxi queue. Good luck in your decision.

    Toyota do, but Honda don't.

sounds like me!! The pity is I drive the "commute car". The 97 Corona with 190,000 on the ticker. We bought it new and its fine for what it has to do. Take the kids to school, go to work, pick the kids up and come home.

^ 15 years old and probably given you very little trouble in that time.

These Toyotas and Hondas are a bit more reliable than the Renaults and Rovers of yesteryear.

In many ways I should just leave the little Honda City be, it is trouble free and will likely be so for the next decade; just a bit boring... & I like a change...

Hard to beat the value of the little City.
How much driving do you do? If you don't drive that much its hard to justify the cost of an lpg conversion. Not to mention the inconvienience of having that tank in the trunk.
I suppose if you were driving 500- 1000 kms a week it would be worth it.

I've got a Vios which I had converted to CNG.
It starts on petrol and then switches over to CNG when the engine warms up.
I had a 100 litre tank fitted, don't even consider anything with a smaller tank or the range is too small unless you only use the car for shopping.

    The economy is unbelievable.
Last month I drove from Phrae to Penang
It cost me 1500 baht for fuel.

The pump situation is not perfect. Sometimes the pumps run out of gas but the delivery tankers have recently been increased in size and my local pump has been allocated an extra tanker so hopefully things are improving.

Very good map here showing all the pumps

Yes the savings are significant. That trip would have cost about 4000 baht in petrol. Assuming you paid around 25k for the conversion it will take 10 such trips before you realize any real savings.
Does the 100 liter tank use the entire trunk space? Got any pics? Roughly how many kms to the liter of cng?

So BB if you traded the City for a CNG Altis you will need to drive roughly 500k kms before you realize any real savings over opperating the petrol City.
If you dont drive that much it doesn't make economic sence to switch cars.

About 60%. So room for shopping or bags for 2 people but no way could you go away for a trip with 4 people

CNG is sold by the Kg. 15-17 km per Kg.

I considered converting my 2000 Corolla over but realized that since I only drive it 20k kms a year it just wasn't worth it, and the fact that when I do use the car I need the trunk space.
I wonder how the new CNG Altis trunk looks?

Very small. I reckon you can't fit a family sized suitcase in it. Look at the link and it will show you how small the space is. I too looked at buying one before converting to LPG. In fact it was on the advice of the guy at Toyota that suggested 'why bother buying a new car with CNG, when I can convert to LPG and keep the engine guarantee' ?

It would nice to see them integrate the lpg tank someday so it doesn't affect the car's utility so much.

So you need to drive about 35k kms to pay for the conversion. That's not too bad. Easy if you drive a lot. Plus the eco-environment benefits and the reduced engine maintenance.
I just hate the idea of that huge lpg tank in the trunk.

You can go for the donut shape as the wife did. But then you lose the spare tire.

^yea but that would be too small of a tank for any useful range.

BTW how far can you go on a 100 liter tank of cng in the Vios?

A 51 litre LPG donut tank should get you 300km's. It only takes 5 minutes to refill. What's the problem ? At 300km you'd probably want a stop off anyway. If not, then it auto changes to benzin.

Put it in the boot, inside the bag that comes with the conversion.

Yes, but then your car is illegal.

CNG is a gas so a tankful varies depending on how much pressure the filling station can provide.
    250-320 kms
