Got to admit am not a big Sizzlers fan - the salad's good but the main dishes are pretty bland. Plus I'm usually full from salad by the time it arrives! Pattaya obviously has an abundance of farang-friendly restaurants.
    Personal favourites include:
    Simple Simon's in Jomtien
Pig and Whistle on Soi 7 (or is it 8?)
The Sportsman (off Second Road, South Pattaya)

If you know good food you will know the only good food available in Thailand is Thai food with very few exceptions. Even the farangs who teach the Thais are untrained so there is nothing to teach. Really, nothing more to say.
Perfectly agreeable Jim. I initiated this thread knowing that a overwhelming percentage of Farang residents prefer to hide in their cultural foods. I don't eat Farang food. I prefer local stuff. It's what I know. Born and raised in the region. It's even more exceptional to take 'home cooking' in the circle of family and friends. Especially, when you have a missus that is an old school Thai/Khmer cook. I don't touch Farang cuisines. Interestingly enough, I know long-timers that still insist on preserving their home cultural diet....
eat what you like. Do you want a medal cause you like Thai food?

Tried a new one for me last night! Big Pizza was purported to be best in the city. Rubbish! Greasy and sauce that was to sweet. Really sucked!

Unless you're right out in the boonies, places like Ubon, Surin, Roi Et etc usually have a couple of places with OK farang food.
Just found one in the little redneck town of Samchuk, Changwat Suphanburi. They do a decent cheeseburger / fries /steak. Quite amazing to me since I've seen exactly two, count ém two farang in the area since moving back. Every once an a while I get bored with kway tee ow moo haeng etc...

so where do you get you tex/mex? I thought it was ok, then again I liked Taco Bell in US. I am not that hard to please. Good steak once and awhile, I make my meatloaf then some pasta. Easy to please when you get down to it. Still looking for Mexican. Bourbon st. was ok.

One of the consequences of living permanently in Thailand, and in the assumption that you want to maintain a 'Western' approach to living, at least on occasion, is that you're going to start cooking for yourself.

I really enjoy Thai food, and my wife's an excellent cook, but there are still the occasions when you need a Sunday roast, or have farang friends around for dinner, and you're pushed into expanding your skills. There are great ingredients available here in Thailand, and good quality meat at reasonable prices (if you look around).

Don't be a slave to overpriced 'farang' style restaurants, cook yourself.

Tonight we are going to Wine Connection for the first time, the one in Chalong people tell me they have enjoyed the food and a good selection, should be able to get a good wine in there I think

If you guys are into your Sunday roast and you live in Phuket try the Islander bar I think good value for the money with Yorkshire puds also, it's between Rawai and Nai Harn.

Me neither but I'm no expert at it.

I've had it in the US and various other places but it always seems to be mince, cheese and soggy crackers.

Don't see the point of that really.

We went to Wine Connection last night I have to it was really good and not expensive.

We started with a couple of beers then 2 of us had a starter some garlic bread with cheese some Italian meat thingy which looked good, 2 of us had a steak tenderloin and the other one had pork and mushroom dish and swill it down with a bottle of red followed by coffees and not expensive just over 2000 baht, they also have a nice deli lots of salami and that kind of shit and cheese's and after 6pm 50% discount on all the bread looks like it's made inhouse had some for my breakfast this morning tasty, we'll go again for sure.
What I liked also for your wine just go in the shop and pick what you want and give it to the waitress.

I enjoy the 'farang food' at the 13 Coins restraunt that is at the back of an alley behind the Pata shopping centre in Pinklao Bangkok. As it is I eat mainly Thai but just once in a while when we are shopping in Bangkok we go to the 13 Coins
