This came up on my PC today. I know I am too old to get cover but some of you youngsters may find it useful. Have a look and see......

Sorry , no offence. Just an observation. I was just trying to remember the name and where I'd saw it before.

On average i spend $0 on medical costs as I pay my taxes and have Thai cover.
If I was inclined to get insurance I would not be eligible - over 50 y.o.

Better to exercise, and drink away the odd bugs that pop up.

99 bucks per month from an unknown company, BUPA is cheaper and world reknowned, pretty sure I know which I would go for.

Naaa, I am 42 years old and have been to hospital 4 times in my life, first time I didn't have a choice as that was where I was born, 2 times just for a couple of stitches, and once for nearly 3 days 2 nights which cost a total of about 5,000baht, don't really seem worth it for me at this stage, the time when I need it I will be too old to get it anyway

My health insurance (Blue Cross) costs nearly US$1000 a month, of which I pay about $300; the US government pays the rest. This covers me and my daughter, who is 16. The deductible is $300 a year, each. I don't think I've made a claim in three decades. But, I'm required to have it, so there it is. Once I'm no longer obligated to insure my daughter I'll look for cheaper alternatives....

You can get a good deal from the banks, 15000 baht a year.
Not sure about exact coverage, but it's a healyth/life insurance.
They put the spin on and say after 10 years you collect a whopping great return, based on inflation its peanuts, but my wife likes it so I buy it.

I suspect an awfull lot of these Policys cover you for everything under the sun , a bit like Holiday travel insurance sounds great untill you have to make a claim then you find out there are so many clauses and things you should have done ( that you didnt ) that unfortunately make your claim invalid .

Health insurance? Had BUPA for 35yrs in UK. Used it once. Cost a bomb.

Best thing to do if you are an old git is to open a savings account and transfer money into it every month. Then with luck you will have saved enough by the time you need it to pay most of your Hospital Bills....

Or do nothing and hope you die suddenly of a heart attack or get shot!

I've been having this debate about whether its worth it to buy private health insurance in LOS. Best quote I've had so far is 27,000 baht a year for lots of coverage worldwide (not much in America though, since its so ridiculously expensive there).
As a farang with a work permit and work-related basic cover at the local public hospital it doesn't seem such a good deal at the moment. After all, my car only cost half that much to insure for a year. Of course, my life is more important than my car, but you know what I mean.
I'm perfectly healthy at the moment, but I guess you never know about the future.
If I ever got really sick I could raid my savings fund or fly home to Oz and go to a public hospital there, which might mean some waiting depending on how urgent they considered my problem.
On the other hand, I know an Aussie who went down in China while travelling with a strange undiagnosable collapsing thing. His health insurance flew him and his wife in an air ambulance with a doctor and nurses to Bangkok and put them both up in Bumrungrad for 3 months, where they diagnosed him with a rare viral condition and cured him enough to go home to Oz and complete his recovery. No way I could have afforded that, of course.
So, it's a gamble about the future, I guess.
