    Snake in the pond

This evening I was showing my fish pond to some friends who probably wish to remain anonymous. So, I will only refer to them by..oh let's call them MtD & GoW.

Anyway this is what I experienced. In the midst of my tour MtD with his keen eyes noticed a reptile of some sort. He quickly knocked GoW out of the way and in trying to protect me, he accidently threw me into the path of this dangerous animal...

Luckily, it was me and not them that stepped on a snake. So what kind of snake is this?

I feel sure that it was an accident, although you have to admit that you are American so it may not have been an accident

I was waiting for you to weigh in. No comments on the heretofore published version(s) of the evening's events?

Anyone ever have problems with snakes eating your ornamental fish in ponds?

It's a rainbow water snake or something isn't it? I was going to get one for my fish tank.

how fast ya figure these geezers could run if a live cobra or black mamba was drooped over their deambulating gear?

Luckily, with MtD's lightening speed and paramedical skills we were all saved from any life threatening injuries!

And so far no snakes have eaten any of my fish...

As long as anyone has ponds in their yards, you will have frogs and with them come the snakes. No way you will get around this. FACT of nature.

Yesterday our resident snake met the wife while I was out. She thinks all snakes are deadly so...needless, to say this Thai creature went to snake heaven.

A closer look. I have to figure out what kind it is/was. Any ideas?

I think that is a Copperhead Racer, but I had to Google for it.

Seems to have venom but no fangs - an odd evolutionary choice, I suppose it will give you a nasty love bite.

I like this web site to help identify the snakes I often find here.
