Have land, but use it for the wife's pet orchard trees and flower garden.Will buy land as it comes avialable from farmers whos debt exceeds their income, only 4 rai now. The way the agriculture business is going with the new organization in charge looks like those super fund price supports are gone for now. All those new cars, trucks and tractors all going back to dealers and banks.

Somchai has gone fishing if that's any indication of the nations farming community health. We don't comment wishing ill winds to befall anyone. Hopefully we add some information for thought and insight into the community.

Being poor in Thailand is a national way of life except for the 1%. Thailand will soon advance into the era of massive industrial farming with Chinese leading their way forward. Chinese buying up Thailand till there's no turning back and no tomorrow for the future independent Thai farmer.

The Chinese are buying every hard asset they can find worldwide. They have got to turn their profits/fiat "invested" in the US markets into something real that has value.

Independent Thai agriculture is probably healthier, and growing, than it has been in years - actually.

Farmers, as a collective entity, are beginning to find that they can be productive and make a decent living without the unnecessary debt that many incur for themselves - enslaved. An emerging mindset to not be dependent on corrupt aggie banking systems and the unnecessary requirement for modern equipment might be creating a new class of farming community across the board.

If the new boys can step in and monitor the between parties that act as agricultural/horticultural mafias.....[not that they will completely] and open up the suppressive markets, it might be a new day for Thai agriculture.

"NAYPYIDAW, Aug 28 — Russian Economic Development Minister Alexei Ulyukayev has called for increased agricultural product exports from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) in view of Moscow’s ban on food imports from western countries.
The one-year embargo announced on August 7 bans imports of meat, fish, dairy, fruit and vegetables from the US, European Union, Canada, Australia and Norway in retaliation for sanctions over the Ukraine crisis, Russia’s Itar-Tass news agency reports.
“I would like to draw your attention to the opportunities opening up for Asean countries to supply agricultural products to Russia particularly fresh vegetables and fruit,” Ulyukayev said at the Asean-Russia senior economic officials’ consultations in Myanmar’s capital Naypyidaw today
“We are familiar with the high quality standards of agricultural produce in your countries and we will welcome products such as nuts, beef, pork and poultry,” he said. Russia-Asean trade turnover topped US$17.5 billion (RM55 billion) last year."

Thailand’s food exports are expected to touch US$31bn in 2014, a seven per cent increase from the previous year, according to Thai Chamber of Commerce

Isara Vongkusolkit, chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, said, “Food shipments are predicted to total over US$31bn, a growth rate that should surpass the economy as a whole.”
China, which has seen shortfalls in its own rice production because of bad weather and industrial contamination, recently agreed to source one million tonnes of rice from Thailand to close the gap in feeding its population of over 1.35bn people.
“Food sector exports have managed better growth than other industries such as electronics and electrical appliances,” Vongkusolkit added.
Thailand is reportedly among the world’s leading suppliers of staple commodities such as rice, sugar and cassava, and also a leading provider of fresh and canned fish, shrimp, pineapple, rubber and a variety of fruits and vegetables
Meanwhile, the exports of shrimp were reduced dramatically this year because of an outbreak of early mortality syndrome (EMS). However, effective measures have been put in place to curb the spread of the disease, official sources said.
“Shrimp output and exports are expected to rebound in 2014, driving higher growth in Thai food exports.”
About 60 per cent of the country’s exports are to Asian countries. The EU and US markets account for 13 per cent each, Bangkok Post reported.


Australia a net importer of food


A truth, not liked by the west, small farmers can live here and in SEA, I can grow rubber in north Australia, they used to grow it in Florida US.
Rules, regulations, laws and taxes stop you, people living on welfare could be independent.
Rural Thais have homes, not great, but better than living under a bridge, they live, no welfare. Wouldn't say hard workers, but not hunting in trash for food.
Would you rather be homeless, broke in NY or here with 10 or 20 rai of crown land to live off.

Have a butchers at his post 42 page 2 in "are you a racist" also he's lying cos I never wrote I had spent 1.5 million on the refurb, I said about a Million ,it gets some what tiresome cos he's now mentioned that I live in a hovel at least 3 times ,WTF were I live and who I live with has anything to do with the thread is for me somewhat of a mystery:) .

Sure it is.:rolleyes: Family just harvested their corn crop on 10 rai...5 baht per kilo, total 48,000 baht received for total crop harvest. After costs for seed, chemicals, fertilizers, labor help, no personal time, cost of fuel to and from, meals, etc. she reckons a 20,000 baht profit.

Rice fields flooded some for the third time this year. Surplus rice stocks sitting rotting in the government barns. 7% increase in exports, :rofl: GDP projected to be 1% or less.

All doom and gloom with rubber on here, but this post still shows that it is the best cash crop out there (unless you live by a river and do palm). 20k profit on 10 rai, my missus does that with 750 trees in 2 months, at the current shit price of 25 baht per kg, and 6 taps a fortnight rainy season style. Add 50% minimum to that in the cool season post rains.

# No, not booking my ticket back to the UK yet. Did some calculations yesterday, as output is stunning lately. There is no reason to not expect 2 metric tons output from my 3 plots come october onwards, the cool season and able to tap when we want, ie 9-10 taps every 14 days starting at midnight. That's 50k a fortnight even at these really shitty prices. Oh, if it was just back to 45-50 baht per kg i'd be a very happy bunny. £1k a week!

All paid by the Farmers bank from funds released by the NCOP. Next is payments for flood damaged crops. 2,000baht per rai.
World forecast on natural rubber prices and production is flat through 2025 according to the Rubber Institute. Increases in consumption and production projected in synthetic rubber however.
