Relative of Australia killer Ivan Milat admits murder

Ivan Milat was convicted of seven killings in 1996

The teenage relative of notorious Australian serial killer Ivan Milat has pleaded guilty to the brutal axe murder of another teenager.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted killing 17-year-old David Auchterlonie.

Mr Auchterlonie's body was found in Belanglo State Forest, south-west of Sydney, last November.

It is the same forest that Ivan Milat dumped the bodies of seven backpackers he killed between 1989 and 1992.

According to papers filed with Sydney's Campbelltown Children's Court, the teenager bragged to a friend the day after the killing: ''You know me, you know my family... I did what they do."

He is said to have gone with Mr Auchterlonie and two other friends to Belanglo forest on the night of 20 November 2010.

The murder and the conversation leading up to it were captured in a video recording on one of the friends' mobile phone

Marat/Sade: Audiences walk out of 'perverse' RSC show

The play is being staged at the newly-refurbished Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford

Audiences have been walking out of the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of Marat/Sade, which features scenes of nudity and torture

At one preview show, 80 theatregoers left the show at the interval.

The RSC says that number was unusually high. According to a spokeswoman, "only four or five" walked out on Sunday.

Marat/Sade is set in a lunatic asylum, where the Marquis de Sade is directing a play about the murder of political thinker Jean Paul Marat.

A review in the Financial Times called it "comprehensively perverse", adding that it constantly challenges "both dramatic conventions and audience composure".

Some of the more shocking scenes include a gang rape and a character being tortured with a Taser.

Audience members interviewed on the RSC's own website described the production as "warped", "disturbing" and "shocking".

Others recommended the play, which is frequently studied as part of the A-Level English syllabus, saying "you have to see it to understand

US ambassador Robert Ford pulled out of Syria

The US has pulled out its ambassador to Syria, Robert Ford, because of concerns for his safety, officials say.

Mr Ford angered Syrian authorities by showing solidarity with activists involved in an uprising against President Bashar al-Assad's rule.

A US spokesman said Mr Ford had left Damascus at the weekend after "credible threats against his personal safety".

Last month, Mr Ford and colleagues were pelted with eggs and tomatoes when visiting an opposition figure.

He was then briefly trapped in his office by pro-Assad demonstrators.

An official at the US embassy in Damascus told the Associated Press Mr Ford had not been formally recalled.

Jorge Santiago, left, and Joe Morales of the New England Barbers Association give free haircuts to volunteers Richard Hirsh, left, and C.J. Holm, who wear capes bearing the names of large financial institutions, in front of Occupy Wall Street headquarters at Zuccotti Park in New York, Monday, Oct. 24, 2011. The stunt involving a half-dozen barbers was designed to call attention to the banking term.

Sporting a "99%" haircut himself, barber Steve Vilot, of Sims Barbers in Pittsfield, Mass., gives a haircut to Joe Arbini at Occupy Wall Street headquarters in front of Zuccotti Park on Monday in New York City.

Some barbers descended on New York's Occupy Wall Street protest — cutting hair while suggesting bankers "take a haircut."

That's a banking term meaning adjusting a loan.

On Monday afternoon, the half dozen barbers set up chairs on Broadway. Each wore a top with the name of a big financial institution.

Barber Steve Vilot (vee-LOH') says he hopes the free haircuts inspire banks to ease the debts of families in danger of losing their homes.

Michael Kink heads the Stronger Economy for All Coalition.

He says banks are happy to "take a haircut" when it comes to the privileged 1 percent. But he says Wall Street could jump-start the economy with cuts for the other 99 percent.
