    A question of ethics.

I signed a contract for a position in week or so ago. Last week they sent me a revised contract which was actually in my favour and asked me to sign it again and send them a copy back.

I picked up my visa today and in theory I will be leaving in March.

Prior to the Korean position being accepted I was offered a very good job in Libya with excellent career prospects. However it's going to mean some serious hard work rather than my cushy 14 hours a week in Korea.

Problem was I wasn't available to start ASAP and they had to take somebody else, who it has turned out was a nightmare and couldn't hack the high work load.

They have contacted me again and appologised again for not being able to take me on the first time but now that they realised they made a mistake and should have waited for me to become available in six weeks as i suggested. I obviously gave them some decent banter.

Basically I can be in Libya within three weeks which was still part of the initial 6 week period I said I would be available after.

The salary is ok and has just been increased. The hours are going to be a killer but I get four flights a year and holidays and very good promotion prospects

Housing paid for and salary is tax free.

Morally I am bound to the Korean position and in I suppose contractually as well even though it has been changed.

Bollocks I've got about 24 hours to make a decision so any input is welcome.

    Phew...do what suits you best.
I'd be happy with a cushy 14 hrs job.

Do what you really want to do Squizza.
Don't concern yourself overly with the morals.
Schools hiring from overseas are more than used to the let downs.

    Interesting one that

korea this missus can come out to live with me no problem

    Libya not a chance.

Libya career wise the prospects are good.

Korea not so good but enough time will be available for me to study further.

which could be a good career move.

I've also lived in Korea and it was a bit crap as well.

just from the outside looking in, the libya deal sounds interesting. you can always do korea. libya would be a good way to stock up some cash and still not be gone from the family over 90 days at a time.

I have this theory about getting along in life.

If you want to get along life's road and a bus pulls up that is going your way. Get on the bus.

Don't wait for the private Limo you are expecting.

    A) It might very well not turn up
    B) From personal experience, as soon as the bus disapears around the corner the heavens will open and it will start pissing it down from all angles.

^take the Libya gig - you know, in the long run, it'll make more sense. Save the money and buy a house in the UK. I don't think you'll get that option with the Korea gig.

Mrs S - it sounds like Libya would be your best bet. Sign the contract & make your apologies to the damaged party. They may still have time to sort themselves out if you move early. In fact, phone them & tell them your situation - & get their blessing. I'm sure they will let you off if you explain nicely - they may be irked, but you never actually cost them any money, as I understand things.

Don't be daft, unless their offering you Gadaffi's position there aint no such thing as a good job in Libya. That and the fact that long term seperation from your wife is not a good idea.

    Take the Korea job.

I have a friend that taught english at CMU and went to korea on a fair contract, but after he got there they screwed him some and he never went to work for then, but for a heavy industry co. instead.
So your korean contract might not be much either,, But keep your head down if you go to Libya.

Don;t see an ethical question here. Take the job you think is best for what you want to do in life. Try not leave anyone high & dry; but in the long-run, it's your life, do what is best for you.

The Koreans don't have ethics, so just go for which ever one sounds more appealling. I wouldn't want to work in either place, so I'd go for whichever paid more. As long as you have access to the essentials in life (beer, pussy, food & internet) what more do you need?

    Good luck.

My friend has just come back from Korea and he said "it sucked" but there was plenty of the essentials mentioned above. They provided a room free of charge and a salary of over $2000 a month, he also said that if he had done more than his mere 20 hours a week and done some of the privates he was offered he could have been making over $3k. Living on the bare essentials you can live for 500 dollars a month but to give you an example of the price of a beer $7 going out often would not be an option if you wanted to save. No prospects for promotion but a good plave to save 15 to $20k in a year.

Oh yeah, there was a moral issue wasnt there (I dont see it), but Lybia just doesnt sound like a place one would be very happy.

You seem to be a man of the world. Ok, resign yourself to fate with this random mechanism that I have used more than once, and which actually was instrumental in bringing me to Thailand instead of the PI.

Toss a coin, heads Libya, tails Korea, but before you do this, make sure in your own mind that regardless of the result, that coin toss will determine those elements of your future and that nothing will deflect you from its result. Concentrate hard, and then release that coin.

Now, while it is still spinning in the air, you will know which way you want it to fall. That's all you need to know, and now you must catch it and pocket it, not wanting to know which way it would have landed, only your true desire. Then go ahead with no regrets, and good luck.

    Looks like it's Korea.

I got a reply to my email requesting information on the costs that would be covered and was told that they only offer a flight allowance equivalent to flying from the UK to Libya.

I ain't prepared to spend a thousand quid plus out of my own pocket to go and work somewhere.

Guess it's back to the old slanty eyed yellows skins then.
