    ati2dvag display driver stopped responding

    This happened yeserday several times.

My Asus desktop screen resolution drops to 600 x 400 and a reboot is necessary.

Checked in Google but found no definitive answer.

My drivers are up to date and the temperatures look OK.

Is this a problem with the graphics card (Radeon x550 256MB) or my harddrive?

think that used to happen to me.

    try de-gausing the monitor first.

ignore that, i think degaussing only applies to ancient CRT monitors like mine.

He'll soon be advising you to open up your laptop and wiggle all connectors and RAM modules..

I have no advice to give you except don't take CMn to seriously.
Degaussing is what you do on a CRT monitor when the picture is scewed/tilted and is in no way related to a problem of a disappearing driver.

I'm assuming this is a laptop. from what i have found it is the drivers but could be due to heat. check where and how you use it. best off luck

I have googled a bit and wouldn't count out temperature problem.
Many users got the problem when running graphic intensive games (will raise the temperature of the graphics chipset).
Others solved the problem by cleaning dirty fans to get a better airflow.

Is your computer in an air conditioned room or is it affected by the nowadays higher outdoor temperatures?

That was what I was looking for - a non catastrophic fail.

The fan that sits on the case wall just above the HDD is definitely not working, but my local repair says it cannot be fixed, but surely it can be replaced.

The shop in town recommended reinstalling the drivers and/or system restore, so I'm drowning in duff advice.

The desktop sits in a normal room , but we suffer from dust badly. I cleaned out the case recently and it was like emptying a full hoover bag
