    f.lux

pretty neat tool to automatically reduce blue light on your computer screen in the evening.. it's not intrusive and no bloatware, easily adjustable from the icon tray.

Ever notice how people texting at night have that eerie blue glow?

Or wake up ready to write down the Next Great Idea, and get blinded by your computer screen?

During the day, computer screens look good—they're designed to look like the sun. But, at 9PM, 10PM, or 3AM, you probably shouldn't be looking at the sun.

f.lux fixes this: it makes the color of your computer's display adapt to the time of day, warm at night and like sunlight during the day.

It's even possible that you're staying up too late because of your computer. You could use f.lux because it makes you sleep better, or you could just use it just because it makes your computer look better.
Seems to give the whites a bit of a sepia tone without reducing the clarity of colors, had it on all evening and got used to it very quickly. There's some pretty solid data on the website and claims that it may help sleep. Certainly is more relaxing.

Sounded great.. downloaded it, installed.. re-started com (at prompt)...

went to enter location where it crashes... tried "Auckland" "New Zealand" even Japan for shits and giggles... no go.. not responding..

It won't close the application either... have to re-start com...

Can't even stop the process using task manager...

Installed it OK... just hangs when entering location.

Probably a firewall issue, although I allowed it access to the net as per requested - my firewall is a suspicious wee minx.. probably thinks it is a backdoor Trogan, a bit like some of you lot heh...

I'll just stick to wearing computer glasses at night - me missus loves the nerd look.

^ On the bottom of that article it says.....

    Conclusion

If you are looking to somehow make your computer screen easier on your eyes then you are better off using f.lux than depending on the Adaptive Brightness feature.

I can see why, as it isn't available in Home and that's what most people probably use.

*I'm not a moron (as Neo implied) let me re-phrase..

    I am a moron... but I ain't a puter moron na krup!!

As I suspected, twas my firewall (Zone Alarm) blocking this program (probably thinking it's a Trogan backdoor virus (like you arse bandits ) was looking for an excuse to uninstall it anyway... (heavy on resources).

Can confirm, brilliant program, scanned it prior to installing (it's clean as my bum bum)... just doesn't play well with ZA *even if you allow it access to the net, to obtain location...

...and transmit your CC details/key logs/gay porn collection, to the mother ship....

    just kidding!

P.S. funny that, even my computer can't stand ZA.. ei ei

Dicky baby... I'd never call you a moron sharp as a marshmallow machete perhaps

anyway.. still using f.lux.. adjusted the at night lux up a bit for a bit more brightness and set the transition time to 60 mins so its not a sudden change at sunset...

does it help..? dunno.. but I've found it easier to switch the computer off the last couple of nights

I think I'm getting in touch with me circadian rhythms in a naturally holistic way.. kind of like discovering the real beauty of a fat women swimming naked at midnight during a Scandinavian summer.. yeah that was just me, not you.. but we can all relate right...

I installed it earlier. It was too dark for me at first so I upped the brightness a bit. I'm feeling a bit sleepy now. Not sure if it's the effect of the f.lux or the JWBL.
