    Online custom PC builder utility

Do any of these PC review sites have a utility where you can put in some data (price, purpose, with/without monitor, etc) and it'll give you some recommendations on which components will work for you?

There's a great Thai site I will try track down, maybe thanni or something? that won't do exactly what you want but should do the trick MTD

InvadeIT is good for a Thai based company, but I want one that will effectively build a virtual PC for you for your budget, so I don't have to ask you lot.

It's not as easy as you want but this will give you Thai prices of components sorted by price / grade and is easy to bang them together to get a system and price. You can then shop for better prices on the components. Dunno if that helps but I reckon it's a good site (for those dumb Thais)...

Just navigate around adding / deleting to shopping cart and the total is always there.

Thanni.com, Thailand Largest Online Computer Store :: Computer Parts, Peripherals, Components, and Accessories. Check Spec and Computer Price :: PANTIP PRICE.

As for components to choose just google the CPU or motherboard model you like and all the info is there for what goes with what, what is overkill, etc.

Be sure to get a fukload of RAM to piss off butters

Anyway, I'm looking at building a new work PC. I might wait 2 or 3 months as Intel will probably unveil a new set of processors after Win8 is launched, so should be able to get an i7 for i5 money.

Anyway, this is what I am thinking for now to run Win7 64 and basically 2D graphics heavy applications. It's not a gaming machine or for building 3D stuff.

    Processor: i5 2380P - 6,190B

    Motherboard: Intel D268DB CGA1155 - 3,790B

    8Gb RAM - 1,500B

    Video Card: nVidia GT440 1Gb - 2, 390B

    Hard drives:
WD Caviar Green 500Gb (system disc) - 2,490B
WD Caviar Green 2Tb (data disc) - 3,890B

    or

    Intel SSD 120Gb (system disc) - 4,890B

Of course there are about 5,000 bahts worth of other stuff to go in there, but they're not critical.

^ yep that's pretty much the same set-up we bought for work stations. Lots of video editing but no 3-D just el cheapo 1GB graphics card to run 2 screens (the on board graphics are fine for this)

You might as well hang on and get a Win 8 certified motherboard, ASUS have already released one.

Go with SDD for operating system if possible, it's a much nicer experience.

I'm sure none of you lot can read.

I want to know which is the best item for the money at current prices. So, if I have 30k to spend, what would the best components be for that budget?

why would you want to do that ? kind of pointless exercise ? price will be determined by specs not the other way around

if you don't know what you want to buy, just buy a fucking iPad

Go to Amazon and select your price range.

    Then see what you get.

I'd wait if spending 30K. They're starting to flog off i7's at a steal.

Just bought 2 beefed up i3 machines for a steal - should be fine for the next 5 years as monkey stations.

    Only software and peripherals.

I'm also looking for a custom build to use as a multimedia device, but it's not that straightforward online to choose exactly what I want, for example: how many and what type of ports, and where they are placed. I'm considering to pay a premium and get the local PC shack to build one for me.

Still a few weeks off, so I'll see if I can't find a suitable site in the meantime.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"
