    Thaton Chalet, Mae Ai

Anyone know if the Thaton Chalet hotel on the 1089 at Mae Ai has closed? I've been phoning (053 373 155/6/7) them for a couple of days but no answer. If anyone has stayed there recently, d'you have a new phone number for them? The hotel is the one sitting on the bank of the river immediately on the north west side of the bridge.
    Cheers.

Yes I saw that. Shame as it was always a nice place to stay for an over-nighter when touring the north.
Anyone got any alternatives for staying one night in that area? I'm looking for somewhere that'll have at minimum off road parking for up to 15 very expensive motorcycles! Looking for somewhere around the 800 baht range, don't need pretty bungalows on the river at 2000 baht..... we'll be hot, tired, dirty and looking for cold beer, hot shower, food and bed.

Nah..... we're saving the twisty bits of Mae Salong and Mae Fah Luang for the next morning (then doing Golden Triangle in the afternoon and heading over to Chiang Khong at dusk).

On that particular day we'll have come from Mae Hong Son with some folk who are only city riders and doing a lot of photo stops, so I don't want to push them. Found a few places worth checking out in Fang and Thaton.

    Thanks anyway for input...... cheers.

Thaton is well worth a couple of hours. The view from the temple is fantastic and a chat with the border post guards is fun. You can also catch the boat to Chiang Rai from here. However, apart from this, it's dead especially in the evening.

There was a small 'get down and get dirty' bar not far from the bus halt.
Very dimly lit so easy to miss
