    Respectable night out in Bangkok

I'm going to meet up with a very good mate who is having a stopover in BKK next month. He's bringing his lass with him and we're all going to go out on the pop.

He's an old Asia hand, however this is his first time back here since he hooked up with his lass and he'd like to present to her a sanitised version of Bangkok after dark. If his woman is suitably impressed, she might let him off the leash and allow him to visit me again on his own.

I have absolutely no idea about Bangkok night-life so can anyone suggest some decent bars and night clubs? A place with live music would be good, but abso-fuking-lutey no Hotel California or Zombie bullshit bands.

They are staying in soi 5, it'll be a Thursday night, and we're all in our 40s.

    Cheers.

You could just stroll down Soi 11, plenty of decent pubs, restaurants and clubs down there.

If you/they like jazz, I believe there are a couple of decent jazz clubs around, but will have to defer to Bkk dwellers with more current knowledge as to names/locations.

All a matter of taste but a good evening out should have a Thai meal followed by a good live band club.

I've found most first time visitors enjoy Cabbages & Condoms on Suk Soi 12.
    C&C Restaurant Bangkok

The Saxophone Pub for after dinner entertainment if they have any interest in Jazz and Blues. Don't eat there.

The buffets on the top floors of the Baiyoke Sky would be a good place to go for a single night in Bangkok. The buffet is fair to good, but the view is outstanding. That's also in Pratunam, where the shopping is great and there is no naughty nightlife for her to see.

The jazz and blues option sounds good.

Do they do falang style Thai food or the blow your balls off spicy stuff? They've got to get on a plane the next day for NZ and I don't want her shitting through the eye of needle at 30,000 feet cursing the tom yam.

Hopefully I'll pick them up before the ladies of the night are out and about, and return them well after their bedtimes.

    Soi Thonglor is quite nice,

Iron Fairies, Wine republic, Brew, Fat Guts, all those places they might enjoy and this is where it's all happening for "normal" people

Thonglor Soi 10 en route to Ekkhamai has a lot of nice bars lounge with relaxing music and nice settings

Pretty mild. It primarily caters to visitors/tourists. Or try a non Thai restaurant. One of my favorite restaurants is Indigo. Great menu reasonably priced. Located down a small soi on Soi Convent across from Molly Malones.

Can sit out side the Landmark just across the road from soi 5 and have a few drinks can be quite amusing people watching there.Little bit pricey for drinks though compared with other bars near by.Or if you want away from the Suk try below.

the beer place (not sure of the official name), off Naritiwhat (which runs perpendicular to Silom & Sathorn). Good thai food and a variety of entertainment. I'm sure someone here can add more detail........

one of the worst French restaurant ever, ok for American and English tourists who do not know any better. Cheap, but it's crap bistrot food you would find in Paris on the Champs Elysees, except it's cheaper in Bangkok. Nice cadre and atmosphere.

Go to Jean-Pierre in Soi 38 I think, cheap and excellent French food.

Also I would venture to nominate the ever wonderful Rossanos on Asoke. Bloody lovely.

Only people I see in there are French speakers. Must be the ones lived in Champs Elysees and know no better.
Mind, I only go in there for their lunch special.

Classic, Gallows. You're going to try to convince someone that there's nothing in Bangkok which Bangkok is famous for. Good luck with that.

    C&C is cack.

Baan Kanitha in Suk Soi 23 is excellent and won't break the bank.
