Clean, safe, cheap centrally located hotel?

    Hi all,

I have a single female visitor coming to Bangkok for a weekend (transit), and I need some help with finding her a half-decent place somewhere in the city, preferably near sky-train/Subway. Can anyone recommend a suitable hotel, preferrably not too expensive (say around or below 1000 baht/night?)

    Cheers,

    WS

Well, plenty around Nana BTS, but might not appeal to a single female.

Everything else I know is well above budget or not near the Skytrain.

    Whiteshiva,

    I fully recommend 'Samran Place'

849 baht a night. New hotel therefore rooms are really clean and everything works. Fridge, sat TV, includes Brekky. Pethburi road. About a 3 minute walk to Ratchatewie BTS. 1 Bts stop or a 15 m walk to all the shopping centres a girl could want but just that far enough away from mass tourist area and the undesirables that they attract.

Have stayed a few times at the Travelers Hotel right next to Rachadipasek (? - pronounced Rachada) Station. Clean, friendly, with breakfast, around 1k.

We just called the Honey Hotel to make a reservation (62 2530646-9, 662 2557172). They have three prices:

    800 - Car park level

900 - Upper level, but no fridge in the room. Non smoking rooms are all twin-bedded.

1350 - Newly renovated room with fridge.

Oddly, those prices include breakfast for only one person. Extra breakfast is 80 baht.

    Whiteshiva,

Try the Woraburi Hotel at the end of Sukhumvit Soi 4. Nice hotel at around 1000 baht with pool on the 5th floor. Incluedes breakfast. Try booking via Sawadee. website. I have been ther many times and this is away from the nana area near the enterance of Soi 4. Also free shuttle to Sukhumvit and BTS is very close.

Dougal stayed at the Woraburi recently. He said that it was so noisy, he left at about 6am. Too many bloody Asians probably...

She hit me twice, but not very hard.

I've walked down Soi 4 several times with the honest intent of having a look at the Worraburi, but somehow I always seem to get distracted long before I get down the road that far....

The oldest unaltered foyer in Thailand is at The Atlanta Hotel.
It is frequently used as a filmset.

    The Atlanta Hotel

    Bangkok's bastion of wholesome and
    culturally sensitive tourism

    Le patron mange ici

The Atlanta is run on conservative principles and
    fosters traditional values.
The Atlanta caters to respectable families and couples
for whom there are attractive small (one bedroom) and
    large (two bedroom) suites.

    SEX TOURISTS ARE NOT WELCOME

78 Soi 2 Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok 10110, Thailand

    Tel: (+ 66-2) 252 6069 or 252 1650 Fax: (+ 66-2) 656 8123 or 656 8124

    no e-mail

The Atlanta is an old-fashioned place of charm and genteel character
    in downtown Bangkok
with the secluded and secure atmosphere of a private club
and the facilities of a small resort for sleaze-free and wholesome tourism.

Run on conservative principles and imperiously heedless of fashions and trends,
The Atlanta is untouched by pop culture and post-modern primitivism.
Its style and atmosphere hark back to gentler and more cultivated times.

The Atlanta is popular with cultured occidentals, with writers, academics, artists, cinema & theatre and other professional people, with dreamers and innocuous eccentrics, and their families, who can afford to stay at more expensive places but choose to stay at The Atlanta.

The Atlanta is against sex tourism.
Sex tourism is exploitative, socially damaging and culturally demeaning:
those who want to buy sex should do so in their own country.

The Atlanta has a 'zero tolerance' policy with regard to trouble-makers
and all illegal activities, including the use or possession of illicit drugs.
Such miscreants are reported to the police without advance warning,
    without hesitation and without apology.
Those who object to this policy, and those who wish to spend their time in Thailand whoring, indulging in alcohol abuse, drugs or other illegal activities should stay elsewhere.

Tourism is not about going on a rampage through other people's country:
those who cannot go abroad without behaving badly should stay home.

The Atlanta got atmosphere, the cheap rooms are a bit basic, but ok for the price. The swimming pool and garden are a few meters from the expressway, very noisy.

The management seem a bit "stuck up", but not to be taken literally.

We've tried to stay there a couple of times but have never passed muster. You have to reserve by FAX and then have a phone interview....

    The Atlanta
    CAVEAT
The Atlanta is run on conservative principles and fosters
    traditional values.
The Atlanta does not hesitate to refuse rooms to
persons unsuited to the prevailing ethos of The Atlanta.

The Atlanta does not welcome SEX TOURISTS,
and does not try to be polite about it.
Borderline cases are not given the benefit of the doubt,
but are treated as sex tourists.
Those who are borderline cases should stay elsewhere.
Guests who attempt to bring in bargirls, catamites and their like
will be told in plain language to settle their bills and leave.
Remaining on the premises after being told to leave will be treated as a police matter.
The Atlanta does not ask for or listen to explanations or excuses, and
does not apologise for the manner in which miscreants are thrown out.
The Atlanta also does not apologise for any mistakes
it may be accused of having made
with regard to the identification of sex tourists.

To keep The Atlanta private, secure, wholesome and sleaze-free
for the kind of guests we welcome,
room guests are not permitted to take visitors / outsiders upstairs into the bulding and their rooms, or into the garden and pool area.
Exceptions may be made in appropriate circumstances at the management's discretion.
Suitable visitors / outsiders may be entertained in the restaurant.

The Atlanta operates a "zero tolerance" policy regarding
    TROUBLEMAKERS,
POSSESSORS AND USERS OF ILLICIT DRUGS and
ALL OTHER ILLEGAL AND NEFARIOUS ACTIVITIES.
'Zero tolerance' means that the police are called
without advance warning to the miscreant,
    without hesitation and without apology.

Visitors who object to The Atlanta's policy or
who intend to spend their time in Thailand
whoring and indulging in alcohol abuse and illicit drugs should stay elsewhere.
The Atlanta is not that kind of place.

Tourism is not about going on a rampage through other people's country:
those who cannot travel abroad without behaving badly should stay home.

On these policies, The Atlanta is not interested in
dissenting public opinion or what the business world calls
    'customer feedback'.
The Atlanta caters to a certain kind of clientele and
that is the end of the matter.
    No discussion. No compromise.

    Hehe, I've got class.
Even managed to bring a girl back to my room, who then had a 'smoke' on the balcony.

Thanks to all who replied (with suggestions). The young lady has now decided to book at the Royal Princess, since some girls sheknows will be staying there at the same time.

Anyway, this thread gave some useful hints, and I am sure I will be referring to it in the future.

Greens on the way (where I can) to those of you who helped out

    Cheers,
