Thread: What are you listening to right now

On the country side this century, I'm liking Cody Jinks, Chris Stapleton, Jamey Johnson and Tyler Childs. Can't think of any newish blues singers/groups that have wowed me...at the moment.

Afghanistan: It would come as a surprise to some that in Afghanistan people like all over the world, have families, love their children, fall in love and enjoy music. The Taliban A-Holes is not Afganistan.

For something totally different.
We flew Turkish airlines about a year ago and I was impressed by the boarding music.
Something that I never thought I would say about any airline boarding music.
Anyway what do you all think? Don't hold back, if I have lost my mind let me know. (minds are highly overrated anyway)

I like it. It's soothing. Probably the intention and why it is being used for boarding. I've been listening to a lot of that same soothing style on Pandora lately. Lots of piano too. What used to be called "easy listening" at one time.


I've always liked different tracks from the big name groups than most people. Lets say Guns-n-Roses. Most were into Paradise City and Welcome to the Jungle. I was the guy who liked November Rain and Civil War better. LedZep, Thank You and The Lemon Song, etc.. The rock ballads I guess they were called.

I think you did. I remember being surprised that there were musicians at the "TED talks." Hadn't realized that, but I haven't watched that many of them. I like her voice.

I must admite, sometimes I can use a litle "helper" too. And I do enjoy the classics, I did enjoy listening the Led Zeppelin song you posted. We all grew up with that music and can't help having positive associations and memories of
simpler times. Though, I Cant listen to head banging music anymore, got to take good care of the few remaining brain cells I still have left.
I am 62 now and have calmed down a lot , I think diminished testosterone might have a lot to do with it.
I used to play guitar, haven't played for a few years now, and though the fingers might not want to cooperate, in my mind I can see the chords and notes, and when listening to these toons, in my mind I play along.
I still own a couple of Yamaha's and a Epiphone Les Paul , I will be retiring in a few months, and when I have more time I plan to take it up again., get my fingers to close a clean F chord, and my pinky to cooperate in transitioning .Practice the pentatonic scales and get some muscle memory back. A lot easier now days with tabs for every song available in the internet, and lessons on Youtube.
I can't wait to retire, the last year of working is "the longest yard" it is like doing time and counting the minutes, it seems to be taking forever.
Anyway, to you and all the others in this Thread, Keep posting,I listen to most, and enjoy all.

The first answer was because music makes you feel good
so the why does it make you feel good??
The answer because it lights up your whole brain, and the release of dopamines.The brain gives you a litle reward for doing something that has survival value
We know what the survival value to certain foods is, or having friends etc , but what survival value can a sequence of sounds have?? that your brain will reward you for it??
Why does the brain releases dopamine when listening to music??
We don't really know.
One theory put forth is that expectations and whether or not these expectations were right had and have survival values , So when we listen to a particular sequence of sounds that meet our expectations we feel pleasure, and if there is dissonance, ie the next note does not meet our expectations (it is out of toon) we feel displeasure.
Finally why different people or people from different cultures or different ages, like different music??
Because our expectations change over time, or are different in different cultures.
