When I was in 8th grade or something like that I bought all these SubPop compilation albums... first up was Revolution Come and Gone. I was introduced to some songs and bands that blew my little adolescent mind. Here are a couple of them. Tad was fronted by an ex-butcher. From the pictures I've seen, he's a scary fat Northwestern redneck. The important thing: he lays down riffs. Afghan Whigs were from Ohio and were some powerful, soulful bastards. Greg Dulli is still functioning, performing with The Twilight Singers and the Gutter Twins (with Mark Lanegan, kindred spirit, ex-Screaming Trees singer; also somehow still alive). Steven Jesse Bernstein... is intense. He was a poet. Deceased. Self-inflicted. Steve Fiske, producer extraordinaire, did the backing music and production on this piece.
