Exactly Larvidchr and some blokes shouldn't even post on music threads.

I saw the Gypsy Kings play on many ocassions and the guitar playing was amazing.

Brian May's influence on me was unbelievable and the first time I heard him play.

The most unmistakable guitar sounds that he created and will remain his forever.

And he got it all from these guys who inspired modern times rock and blues, many of the riffs and styles used today comes directly from those guys. Whenever I praised my rock-music as a young teenager my Dad would drag me into look at his New Orleans jazz and blues collection find something of these guys and say to me "this is where all your rock was born"

    Blind Lemon Jefferson 1926-

    Big Bill Broonzy 1935-

And finally Lightning Hopkins born 1912 on a cotton farm, here he is 1960-

"Lightning Hopkins, the classic acoustic blues guitar player, he has influenced thousands of players across the world. He was a Texas Blues player and was inspired by Blind Lemon Jefferson. His music holds an important part in Blues Guitar history. There are two songs here, they speak for themself, in it you’ll hear where many of the riffs and guitar lines that are played across the world have come from. Hopkins often included the talking style of vocals. It’s a music lesson in itself."

You could name another 1,000 guitarist that I could replace on my list including.

    1. Peter Green.
    2. Steve Hackett.
    3. Peter Frampton.
    4. Ron Wood (when he was with the faces).
    5. Stevie Ray Vaughan
    6. Steve Howe.
    7. Jeff Beck.
    8. Dave Davies.
    9. Mick Ronson.
    10. James Taylor.

Here's one for you and he created so many beautiful sounds that have influenced so many other musicians.

That was the point I was trying to make. Most of the top tens etc dont feature any of the greats, due to the fact they are made up by people who have no musical knowledge what so ever. Most are picked because of their popularity, and not their technical ability, and mastery.

How often do you hear of this guy?

or this. I heard somewhere, he was the inventor of the power chord, due to having lost two fingers in a fire.

Im not saying there aren't any truly modern greats, because there are, and some have already been mentioned above. I just think, that some artists don't get enough credit, purely because they're not mainstream enough.

    Btw, some great choices above.
I aint superstitious, but I know when somethings wrong

^ Agree completely, but I also think it is because it is the younger generations that do the choosing on the net today and they have no knowledge of the old greats and that is understandable really.

Paco de Lucia is just fantastic
