One of the all time greats.
Yes and the second best Aussie band ever after The Easybeats in my opinion.
More Scottish influence as well.
Chisel is an Adelaide band.
You could see them in any number of pubs there for free, loong before they became a name act in the Eastern states.
Actually, they still played Adelaide venues free after you'd be paying $2 - 5 to go see them in Melb or Sydney. I guess that was their start.
Strange world, innit- some people pay $50 or more to go see some frikkin boxer on cable TV these days. As for me, I've played pool with Jimmy Barnes and Bruce Springsteen. Beat them both too. Got pissed with Bryan Johnson too- he's a real good bloke.
The world has changed, alas, and me with it.
Jimmy Barnes once upon a time come to Bangkok regularly and married a Thai and had Luk Krueng children who started a band called The Tin Lids (I think).
I met him in Molly Meldrum's bar just off Silom and when he got pissed he was a nightmare. He also retained his Scottish accent and was an amazing vocalist who could of fronted any band in the world.
He was a bit boisterous, but I never saw him anything like a nightmare.Originally Posted by Loy Toy
but he was certainly a heavy drinker- spirits strait from the bottle is/was his way.
Barnesy seemed to have a thing about Asia and Asian woman and the one in this clip is a glamour.
This is my favourite song and after he went solo.
After he left Chisel he had a huge problem with alcohol and was always getting into shit which was reported by the press it seemed like monthly.Originally Posted by sabang

He has stopped drinking now.
I sat across the plane aisle from him and one of his daughters last year from Adelaide to Sydney and he hardly said a word, just read his book and had a hot cup of tea.

Jimmy married the ex-Thai Ambassador to Australia's daughter around 25 years ago and they have a couple of kids. I'm pretty sure they're still married. Johnny Diesel married Jimmy's wife's sister.
What's Ian Moss doing now as he was a brilliant guitarist and singer in his own right?
Anyone keeping tabs on this legend of the Australian music industry?
Bugger, I thought this was a thread about tools.
No we were all waiting for you to arrive and now your here carry on!Originally Posted by Phoenix

Yes the Little River Band were quite popular in North America I believe.
Without ambushing the OP I say sorry but add this song.
While in Canberra in November 1979 however, he met Jane Mahoney (born Jane Dejakasaya, in Bangkok, Thailand, 1958) the stepdaughter of an Australian diplomat.
Mahoney had been dating Chris Bailey of The Angels for some time but their relationship had cooled due to his overseas touring.
Barnes began a relationship with her and they started living together but in March 1980 she began to feel overwhelmed by the rock lifestyle and followed her family to Tokyo where her father was posted.
Barnes wrote the song "Rising Sun" about this, which would appear on the album East.
The pair married in Sydney on 22 May 1981 and Jane soon gave birth to their first child Mahalia, named after Mahalia Jackson, on 12 July 1982[4].
The couple now have four children.
Barnes was already the father of a son, David Campbell, who, due to the young age of his parents at the time of his birth, was being raised by his grandmother.
While Barnes maintained contact with him, Campbell did not become aware that Barnes was his father and not merely a family friend until the mid-1980s.

I saw them play in quite a few places, but my favourite venue at that time was The Royal Antler Hotel at Narrabeen.

Steve Prestwich, drummer for Cold Chisel and at one time Little River Band, has died from a brain tumour at the age of 56.
Steve's brother Simon has confirmed to Undercover that Steve passed away this afternoon (Sunday, January 16, 2011) at around 3.30pm.
Prestwich was born in Liverpool, England but moved to Adelaide, Australia when his family migrated in 1971.
In 1973, he was a founding member of the band Orange, featuring Jimmy Barnes, Ian Moss, Don Walker and Les Kaczmarek. In 1974, they changed their name to Cold Chisel.
In Cold Chisel, Steve Prestwich wrote the now classics ‘When The War Is Over’ and ‘Forever Now’ and co-wrote ‘Flame Trees’ with Don Walker. He also wrote ‘Best Kept Lies’ from Chisel’s classic ‘East’ album.
After Chisel broke up in 1983, Steve joined Little River Band who also recorded ‘When The War Is Over’, with John Farnham as lead singer.
He has released two solo albums ‘Since You’ve Been Gone’ in 2000 and ‘Every Highway’ in 2009.
In September 2010, Cold Chisel reformed and performed a brand new Don Walker song ‘All For You’. It was the first we were going to hear from what was to be their first album in 13 years later this year.
Undercover will bring you more details as they become known.

Australian music charts veer in One Direction
Maybe we should count up all the very average Aussie pub rocks bands there are?
