Barre chords... they're not power chords, power chords are stripped down to the root and fifth.
Barre chords... they're not power chords, power chords are stripped down to the root and fifth.
I'm starting to make sense of some stuff now.
Chords, ok.
Scales, coming.
Pentatonic (or whatever it's called, sounds like a cult to me...), coming.
Power chords, coming.
12 bar blues, coming. This starts to be a bit exciting and we can start to innovate. Should be 2-3 weeks before I feel comfortable with this.
Cycling should be banned!!!
My playing is still crap, so I'm gonna have to take some drastic action...

The guitar is only 200 pounds, 3 nice pickups will match that cost. Once it is set up and some new strings whacked on, if I enjoy the playing and the tech reckons the guitar is sound then I'll add a Dimarzio virtual vintage heavy blues 2 in the middle position. If things continue to come along well then I'll whack in a mojo in the bridge and a liquid fire in the neck - I'll be close to this then:Originally Posted by Neo
(although I'll have a bluesy style middle pick up too)
If I'm still crap at that stage then I'll sell the fuker and take up indoor bowling...

It doesn't matter too much, we can play with a LOT of distortion... With Scribe Slaps on the drums, nobody will hear much anyways.Originally Posted by withnallstoke
Can you sing? Can you write? Can you play an instrument? Do you have nice tits? This is what the Shifters is currently in need of.
Auditions are via Skype. Practice is also via Skype, and I'm looking to set up some virtual Skypye gigs too.

I will not heed socals recommendations
I can play Happy Birthday to You.
I can strum: A, E, D, A minor, D minor, E minor, G and C.
I can strum some really boring songs with the above chords.
I can play the intro to the Pixies Here Comes My Man (I learnt it for Stoker)...
I can play an interesting blues strumming pattern that gives a sense of walking through the song (Johnny Cash) style.
Overall, I'm still crap.
I want the world to know; specifically, I want TD to know.

^ what should I wear? I might need to start a poll...
Have you seen Cheech Marin in Up In Smoke playing 'Rockfight'..? That'd work
why was that the first thing that sprung to mind..?
Hey Betsy, a really good site for beginners is: ULTIMATE GUITAR TABS. 800,000 songs catalog with free Chords, Guitar Tabs, Bass Tabs, Ukulele Chords and Guitar Pro Tabs!
Thousands of songs written in chord/lyric format and tablature format. Great if you just want to learn by playing your favourite songs and pick up chords as you go, rather than spending hours trying to master them with no application.
A useful feature is that if you are unsure of how to play a specific chord you can hover over that and it'll show you on a diagram of the fretboard.
Here's an example of the chord/lyric format in a nice easy song to learn:
YOU'VE GOT TO HIDE YOUR LOVE AWAY (Beatles)
G D F G C F C
Here I stand head in hand, turn my face to the wall
G D F G C F C D
If she's gone I can't go on, feeling two foot small

Everywhere people stare each and every way
G D F G C F C D
I can see them laugh at me and I hear them say ay ay
G C Dsus D D6 D
Hey you got to hide your love away
Hey you got to hide your love away
G D F G C F C
How can I even try, I can never win
G D F G C F C D

G D F G C F C D
Gather round all you clown, let me hear you say ay ay
G C Dsus D D6 D
Hey you got to hide your love away
Hey you got to hide your love away
Bollocks, for some reason that hasn't copied over properly so the chords are slightly misplaced, link here: Youve Got To Hide Your Love Away Chords by Beatles @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com
^I'll have a go of that today, thanks.
^^ that's hot, and there are some great women in the crowd! His guitar looks like an RG too, so that's gotta be the way forward...

One should work 10'000 hours to be a master in violin, tennis,,whatever if you spend 10'000 hours at it you can be a MAESTRO... The theory was told few decades ago...
There is a guy that now says with 20 hours of doing something, researching or playing an instrument you will be able know quite a good lot of it or be able play a few songs...
I seen the speech of the guy and i unpacked an old Accordion with about 140 buttons that always scared me.
I gave it a trial and 10 hours in can almost play the night Waltz, cool not what i aim at but some cool sound already...
The trick is to give it a commitment of 20 hours, keep the thing handy ready to be used to avoid the hassle of unpacking... And play 45 minutes a day for a month.
Well i hope that around Xmass i get some better tune then the night Waltz to play... goood luck, practice is key !
Monday,Tuesday, then it goes WTF !

Probably about right. I try to do 30 mins to an hour 5 or 6 days a week. But, I'm still shite, I reckon it'll take me about 100 hours before I can play songs I like and understand what I am doing; play some blues, improvising as I go...Originally Posted by forreachingme
When you're practicing scales try to keep your fingers close to the fretboard, if your fingers are flying like demented spider legs you will always struggle to achieve accuracy. It's difficult at first but you will notice the difference in accuracy and speed in quite a short time.
I did this tab for you of a riff I use to warm up. With your thumb squarely in the back of the neck, use all four fingers with your 2nd finger on the 3rd fret. It's a Rockabilly riff so go with that kind of rhythm.
It's a straightforward pattern, but there's quite a bit going on, alternate picking across string changes, rhythm, accuracy and speed. Start slow and aim for accuracy by keeping your fingers in close to the fretboard.
...repeat from beginning straight after the last line by leaving out the first open E note...

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"
^Thanks Neo, I'll give it a whirl.
